A great museum
Review of Ellis Island National Monument, New York by jennyf16

Advantages: lots of information
Disadvantages: none

...to this I thought that Ellis Island was worth a visit as it is a huge part of American History. So, instead of getting the free ferry to see the statue of liberty, we paid and took the ferry via statue of liberty to Ellis Island. The island has a museum with several exhibitions/sections all about the history from how imigrants got here to how new words came into the language and where they came from. The museum is full of exhibits and so you don't ...
...about people who came to Ellis Island. This would be great to watch before seeing the rest of the museum however we had to watch it just before we left the museum but it was well worth watching and this is the one bit I'd recommend. It you only went to the museum for this then it is still worth paying for just this alone. A must do in New York and you learn something too, great for all ages. ... Read review

Empire State Building - A disapointment
Review of Empire State Building, New York by Foxy1212

Advantages: Views are amazing, reasonable price
Disadvantages: Cues, takes a long time

When visiting New York, the Empire State building is one of the first attractions in any tourists mind, which is just as well for the people who make money from their visiting, as the service they offer has really plummeted. My first visit to the building around 8 years ago was pleasant, up fairly quickly after a reasonable cue, look around, and then back down no hassle. The I would have strongly reccomened the experience. Now though, it is more ...
...Rock viewing centre now available at the Rockerfeller centre. After being shepharded along in a cue for what seemed like an age every person id now forced to have a photo taken, with the option of buying on the way down, which is where my main issue lies. You can no longer simply leave when you are finished admiring the unarguably fantastic views. Now you have to cue to get out due to everyone being shown their photos taken earlier. The experience ... Our JFK experience
Review of New York, John F. Kennedy, USA (JFK) by vixxys

Advantages: Quite close to the city.
Disadvantages: Not enough shops

My partner and I visited New York last may.We flew into JFK which to be fair was smooth, the Immigration staff were friendly before hand we had been warned that they can be quite rude. But after what has taken place in the city who could blame them? We waited about 15 mins to get through immigration were they take your photo and your fingerprints. This you dont mind as you want to be safe in such a large city. The taxi rank is right outside were you ... Read review

Weird feeling
Review of Strawberry Fields by GF1124

Advantages: Beautiful, peaceful, calming.
Disadvantages: Not much to see.

Strawberry Fields is a three acre landscape on the edge of Central Park dedicated to the memory of John Lennon. It apparently contains plants from more than one hundred countries. It is a spot that was often visited by John, and is only a few yards away from the Dakota Building across the street outside of which the former Beatle met his death in 1980. The garden is tear-shaped and contains a tiled mosaic. The tribute simply says, 'Imagine'. John's ...
...through funds from her that Strawberry Fields is maintained. In May this year I had enjoyed a romantic stroll through Central Park with my wife. It was cold and sunny. A beautiful New York day. We came across Strawberry Fields and it made us stop in our tracks. It is a very simple tribute, and there is not really much to it. I have no particular love for John Lennon, but this area of the park has an aura about it that nearly reduced me to tears. ... Read review

Madison Square Garden Tour
Review of Madison Square Garden by chellbian

Advantages: not just sports, guided tour with knowledgable tour guides
Disadvantages: brief

...enjoy our recent visit to Madison Square Garden. I thought that it was going to be a sports orientated afternoon and I am not a big sports fan. My husband is though, so I went along with him. It turns out that Madison Square Garden is not all about sport after all! We both ended up having a great afternoon. The entrance fee was approx $15 per person and this included a guided tour of several areas of the venue. We had a helpful tour guide who was ...
...celebrities have performed and still do perform at the Garden. We had time and opportunity for some good photo opportunities throughout the tour. All in all, the Madison Square Garden tour was great value for money and an enjoyable hour (or so). Highly recommended for adults and children alike. ... Read review
