We booked a cheap flight and apartment online and arrived in New York late at night in the middle of a very cold November.
We were strongly advised to only use a yellow cab, however we were confronted several times by casual taxi drivers but stood our ground.
We stayed in Little Italy, a little off the beaten track, but ideal to reach other parts of New York. The highlights of the trip were the Statue of Liberty, Central Park and Macy's store. Not for the feint-hearted, floor after floor of clothing, kitchen items, you name it - well worth saving up for.
The food was a little disappointing; however next time we will explore Greenwich Village and other parts of the city.
