Great location, but disappointing NYC hotel..

Advantages: Central Location
Disadvantages: Pricey - not paticularly good value for money, rooms are tired and in need of a makeover

...you should expect from a hotel in New York. I guess it is more or less on a par with London as far as "value for money" is concerned. This hotel is in a fabulous location. A couple of minutes stroll to the Empire State Building which is directly infront of (and above) you as you step out of the front door. Also very close to Macy's and Times Square. In fact quite a central location as we walked easily from the hotel to Central Park, 5th Avenue, the ...
...even less so as the hotel was completely covered in scaffolding when we were there in October 2006, but there is a post office just a few yards from the hotel which comes in handy. Inside the hotel, the lobby is very impressive if a little kitchy! Very high ceilings with lots of gold ornate flowers and cherubs! The staff were polite but checking in was a bit of a military procedure with photocopies having to be taken of every piece of documentation ...

Review of Hotel Wolcott, New York City

Milford Plaza : Okay for the rate we paid

Advantages: Deli and Pub downstairs, near to Times Square/Broadway
Disadvantages: Quite noisy, room was basic

I stayed at the Milford Plaza on my first trip to New York and had no idea about the city at all. The hotel looks great from the lobby with escalators from the street level and it has a deli, gift shop and pub right underneath. There was always someone on duty by the lifts, always checking that you had a room key so it was fairly secure. It was in a great location, right on Times Square and next to the Broadway Theatres so there was lots to do right ...
...we didn't even have any power when we made it up there. It was quickly resolved though and we were able to settle in. Our room was pretty basic - just the beds, a chair and tv on a stand - and I kept getting a static shock whenever I opened the door from walking on the carpet. Great Experience in Soho

Advantages: Price, friendly staff, free breakfast
Disadvantages: Location for some people maybe

The price of this hotel via Expedia drew me to it but I am SO glad I booked. From the moment you're greeted by the efficient and friendly staff you feel like you've made the right choice. We were greeted daily by the staff and often returned "home" to be offered lemonade or freshly baked cookies. The rooms are modern, clean and with very good facilities. The location, depending on your point of view, was amazing. The surreounding streets are a little ...
...in Soho but it is literally just over the road. A quick walk takes you to the excellent Soho shopping and Tribeca restaurants and also the slightly grittier area of ChinaTown was also minutes away. Subways are close by so it's easy to get to anywhere in the city. Restaurants nearby are amazing... Bubby's, Nobu, Odeon, The Harrison to name a few. We spent 10 days here and the room was easily big enough and comfortable enough for that period of time. ...

Not worth the 4 stars rating

Advantages: Great location, better than a days inn.....
Disadvantages: Not MUCH better than a days inn....... not very clean, so-so service.....

Well, this was supposed to be a 4 stars hotel but it wasn't worth it. The room were nice and service people were always smiling, but you get that in a Days inn. You don't get more than that. Review of City Club Hotel, New York City

A palatial palace.

Advantages: Large rooms by NY standards, good service, quality furnishings.
Disadvantages: Expensive.
