There are far better four star hotels
Advantages: Great location Disadvantages: Certainly not a four star hotel
...elegance and was sadly disappointed. The place looked tired, grubby and in need of a facelift. The bathroom looked like something out of a 1970's motel with peeling watersealing and melamine sink surround. The check-in staff were unattentive and seemed somewhat overworked running all over the place. The pushy bellhop gave me no choice but to take my bags and stood waiting until I gave him a tip and then walked off without thanks. It was extremely ... ...Henri Bendel, Bergdorf Goodman and the lovely toystore FAO Schwatrz are all within a 5 minute walk.
I did not use any of the hotels facilities so can not comment on these.
I would not recommend this hotel to anyone and find it unbelievable The Plaza is in the same class as this when they are clearly worlds apart. The location is great but that counts for little if the hotel is poor. ...

Simple, stylish, recommended
Advantages: Luxurious, comfortable hotel with excellent service Disadvantages: Some of the food was a bit of a let down
I stayed at the Soho Grand in the October of last year, for just one night, but it left such a wonderful impression on me and came up in conversation only moments ago, and hence I thought I'd review the place, if only to recommend it!
I must say before anything else, that I was not responsible for either booking, or paying for the room, as it was part of a business trip, and therefore I can't comment on things like ease of booking, nor, really, ... ...questioning the quality of the Soho Grand though; from start to finish, it was a marvellous, easy, friendly experience. I'd highly, highly recommend a stay here, again, it's not going to be the cheapest of places, but for comfort, luxury, security, and something a little different, as well as being located in a fantastic area, I'd say you'd be hard pushed to find much better!
Further details and pictures can be found at www.sohogrand.com with, I ...

Our Helmsley experience
Advantages: Location Disadvantages: Snooty staff
Our stay at The Helmsley was May last year.First impressions very nice clean hotel, which is a relief when you see some of the other hotels in the city!
The lobby is a good size, the doormen are there but only really seem to want to help the very rich people(bigger tips). The front staff(reception) well 1 in particular didnt really seem to be enjoying her job, seemed not really bothered. To her she has checked in loads of people but for us this was our ... ...sized room. Our room was on the 14th floor,as we looked out of the window there was our view...The Empire state buliding!!Fantastic.
Toiletries are replenished everyday,on week days the New York times gets delivered to your room for free.Overall we would stay here again the location is also very good about 10 mins to times square. Its pretty much central to alot of the sights, one of them being Grand Central Station which is just a few minutes down ...

Right in the thick of it
Advantages: Central location Disadvantages: None
If you want to stay in Central New York then this is the hotel to book. It is actually IN Times Square! It's a huge modern hotel with over 45 floors so some of the views are great. There is a bar at the top which is a lovely place to have a drink, although it's not cheap. There are quite a variety of restarants, bars and cafes in the hotel itself, but of course you do pay top hotel prices, and we found loads of cheaper places locally to eat and drink.
... ...which was lovely to sit and look at, you can watch the 24 hour city going on in the streets. Our room was large and bright, well sound-proofed and very comfortably furnished. In fact we had the biggest bed I have ever seen!
There was a coffe maker in the room, but as I don't drink coffee I used to run water through it and leave out the coffee bag, and just use the teabags I brought with me from home. From the moment we arrived to the moment we left ...

Would reccomend the Renaissance!
Advantages: Excellent location for exploring Disadvantages: None!
We stayed in the Renaissance in March and April of this year. The room was fantastic with a great view of Time Square - surprisingly quiet as well. All the memebers of staff we spoke to were really friendly. We wanted to upgrade our room as it was a special occasion but all the suites were booked - because of this the guy on reception gave us free breakfast vouchers instead!
If you are looking for a hotel that is right in the heart of the action, ...
