There are far better four star hotels Advantages: Great location Disadvantages: Certainly not a four star hotel ...elegance and was sadly disappointed. The place looked tired, grubby and in need of a facelift. The bathroom looked like something out of a 1970's motel with peeling watersealing and melamine sink surround. The check-in staff were unattentive and seemed somewhat overworked running all over the place. The pushy bellhop gave me no choice but to take my bags and stood waiting until I gave him a tip and then walked off without thanks. It was extremely ... ...Henri Bendel, Bergdorf Goodman and the lovely toystore FAO Schwatrz are all within a 5 minute walk. I did not use any of the hotels facilities so can not comment on these. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone and find it unbelievable The Plaza is in the same class as this when they are clearly worlds apart. Simple, stylish, recommended Advantages: Luxurious, comfortable hotel with excellent service Disadvantages: Some of the food was a bit of a let down I stayed at the Soho Grand in the October of last year, for just one night, but it left such a wonderful impression on me and came up in conversation only moments ago, and hence I thought I'd review the place, if only to recommend it! I must say before anything else, that I was not responsible for either booking, or paying for the room, as it was part of a business trip, and therefore I can't comment on things like ease of booking, nor, really, ... ...questioning the quality of the Soho Grand though; from start to finish, it was a marvellous, easy, friendly experience. I'd highly, highly recommend a stay here, again, it's not going to be the cheapest of places, but for comfort, luxury, security, and something a little different, as well as being located in a fantastic area, I'd say you'd be hard pushed to find much better! Our Helmsley experience Advantages: Location Disadvantages: Snooty staff Our stay at The Helmsley was May last year.First impressions very nice clean hotel,which is a relief when you see some of the other hotels in the city! The lobby is a good size,the doormen are there but only really seem to want to help the very rich people(bigger tips).The front staff(reception) well 1 in particular didnt really seem to be enjoying her job,seemed not really bothered.To her she has checked in loads of people but for us this was our ... ...sized room.Our room was on the 14th floor,as we looked out of the window there was our view...The Empire state buliding!!Fantastic. We had expected something quite shabby as it was a last minute deal through expedia.co.uk whilst sitting in Manchester Airport waiting for our flight to arrive. (Talk about last minute). The hotel can arrange airport transfers in the form of a limousine service, they cover JFK Airport, LaGuardia Airport, Newark and LGA. The cars range from a comfortable 4 seater limousine ... ...at a price, it ranges from $65.00 to $110.00 (£35.00/40.00 to £60.00/70.00) not too expensive they will display your name on a board, taking the hassle out of waiting for taxi's. Give it a try, you might like it! Advantages: Price, location, cleanliness Disadvantages: Outdated decor and furniture We stayed here for one night in April 2007 during a flying visit to NYC. It was a last minute arrangement and we booked through lastminute.com. This hotel had an excellent location. We easily walked to Times Square, Chrysler Building, Bloomingdales etc.. We also walked to China Town, although this was a bit more of a trek. The hotel was very close to an excellent steak house called The Capital Grille - which i would recommend 100% - superbe place ... ...excellent, sincere and helpful - I say sincere as this is something i found lacking in most sales people in New York. We had a suite, which had excellent space. 2 queen size beds. As a couple on holiday, we'd normally find this odd, but actually walking around NYC was exhausting, so a comfy bed each was lovely. I have to be honest, the room's furniture and decor needed updating, the sofa had a hole in it, the curtains were a bit shabby.
