A great hotel for a great price!

Advantages: Excellent rooms, friendly staff, transportation links, facilities near by.
Disadvantages: Lifts can only fit 2/3 people with suitcases in.

...near to the city and that has good transportation links. We are hoping to go back to NYC next year and we would definately go back to the Belleclaire. Hopefully this review has been helpful for anyone looking to stay at the Belleclaire or is just going to NYC. ...

Don't count on staying, even if you book

Advantages: The location is OK
Disadvantages: Unhelpful staff, poor customer service. No guarantee of a room even with booking

...give the impression that the West Side Inn was a good place to stay if (and only if) the only thing you were looking for was a safe place to sleep. Make no mistake about it, this was the only thing I needed and so I booked a room for myself and my partner so we could travel the 3500 miles from the UK and see the sights of New York. No apologies were offered and the casual way we were told we would 'just have to stay somewhere else' combined with the number of travellers who have had similar experiences suggests this is regular occurance at the West Side Inn. Refurb work on hotel disappointing

Advantages: Breakfast, free internet, location
Disadvantages: refurb work, not very good staff

Stayed in June 2008, I was told there would be minor refurbishment work taking place between the hours of 9 and 5. I was ok with this as I would be out exploring the city at these times. We were also told that our floor would not be worked on whilst we were there. Our floor had no wall paperor carpets and the smell of paint was awful, there was also a numebr of workmen starting as early as 7.30 and I saw some on an evening too. Apart from this I ...
...downstairs was a great bonus and the location was great, situated between the empire state building and maceys. There was also breakfast included which is quite strange for new york, was nice with some bagels and toast etc. I think I would choose a different hotel next time, though the refurb will probably be finished by the next time I visit the Big Apple. ...

Great location, but disappointing NYC hotel..

Advantages: Central Location
Disadvantages: Pricey - not paticularly good value for money, rooms are tired and in need of a makeover

...you should expect from a hotel in New York. I guess it is more or less on a par with London as far as "value for money" is concerned. This hotel is in a fabulous location. A couple of minutes stroll to the Empire State Building which is directly infront of (and above) you as you step out of the front door. Also very close to Macy's and Times Square. ...even less so as the hotel was completely covered in scaffolding when we were there in October 2006, but there is a post office just a few yards from the hotel which comes in handy. Inside the hotel, the lobby is very impressive if a little kitchy! Very high ceilings with lots of gold ornate flowers and cherubs! The staff were polite but checking in was a bit of a military procedure with photocopies having to be taken of every piece of documentation ...

Great Experience in Soho

Advantages: Price, friendly staff, free breakfast
Disadvantages: Location for some people maybe

The price of this hotel via Expedia drew me to it but I am SO glad I booked. From the moment you're greeted by the efficient and friendly staff you feel like you've made the right choice. We were greeted daily by the staff and often returned "home" to be offered lemonade or freshly baked cookies. The rooms are modern, clean and with very good facilities. A quick walk takes you to the excellent Soho shopping and Tribeca restaurants and also the slightly grittier area of ChinaTown was also minutes away. Subways are close by so it's easy to get to anywhere in the city. Restaurants nearby are amazing... Bubby's, Nobu, Odeon, The Harrison to name a few. We spent 10 days here and the room was easily big enough and comfortable enough for that period of time. ...
