Not worth the 4 stars rating Advantages: Great location, better than a days inn..... Disadvantages: Not MUCH better than a days inn....... not very clean, so-so service..... ...spent 6 nights at the city club hotel of new york city this summer. I looked at pictures of the hotel and other reviews and I made my choice: Booked it in advance. Well, this was supposed to be a 4 stars hotel but it wasn't worth it. The room were nice and service people were always smiling, but you get that in a Days inn. You don't get more than that. We had loads of luggage and nobody helped us with them. they could barely hold the door opened ... ...Algonquin's personnel than from the city club's, even when I told them I was a customer of their next door competitors..... Location of the hotel: GREAT! You are right in the middle of midtown, where most of the great new york things are. Grand central, Times Square, 5th avenue, St-Patrick cathedral, empire state building, chrysler building, Rockefeller center, all within 5 to 20 minutes to reach on foot. File Me Impressed! Advantages: Peaceful, plush, unique hotel in NYC Disadvantages: Slightly off the beaten path ...and I stayed in the Library Hotel in late August of 2004 for two nights. After spending a few nights in one of its sister hotels the Casablanca we had to change accommodation due to room availability. The Library Hotel is presumably named for its location, right across from the New York Public Library and Bryant Park. It is also themed after libraries down to the finest detail, with rooms being numbered by the Dewey Decimal system, and each floor ... ...of the New York Public Library from its wall to wall window overlooking Madison Avenue. Well what more could I ask for? A rooftop garden terrace perhaps, with an attached bar? No, surely that would be over the top! Casablanca Hotel, New York Advantages: Disadvantages: Great value hotel right in the heart of Manhattan,at 147 West 43rd St, New York. Just off Times Square but more a quiet oasis than bustling metropolis. Extremely well run. Totally themed out in Morroccan style (mosiac tiling and palms throughout) its actually pretty authentic. Owner and staff are all North African or at least second generation. Bookings can be made and discounts can be haggled over online at casablancahotel.com. Relaxing in the Urban Jungle Advantages: location, breakfast available, free wine in the evenings Disadvantages: noise, can be expensive at some times of year ...friendly without being overly familiar. Our room was cleaned every day by the time we returned and the doorstaff were always on hand to help flag a taxi. So was it worth it? Absolutely. Great Experience in Soho Advantages: Price, friendly staff, free breakfast Disadvantages: Location for some people maybe The price of this hotel via Expedia drew me to it but I am SO glad I booked. From the moment you're greeted by the efficient and friendly staff you feel like you've made the right choice. We were greeted daily by the staff and often returned "home" to be offered lemonade or freshly baked cookies. The rooms are modern, clean and with very good facilities. The location, depending on your point of view, was amazing. The surreounding streets are a little ... ...in Soho but it is literally just over the road. A quick walk takes you to the excellent Soho shopping and Tribeca restaurants and also the slightly grittier area of ChinaTown was also minutes away. Subways are close by so it's easy to get to anywhere in the city. Restaurants nearby are amazing... Bubby's, Nobu, Odeon, The Harrison to name a few.
