Great location but little else
Review of 60 Thompson, New York City by gingernut_1

Advantages: Excellent location
Disadvantages: Expensive

The Thomson Sixty is a relatively new "boutique" hotel in Soho New York. Location wise it is excellent, ten minutes walk away from the nearest subway, 5 minutes walk to the stylish Soho shops and excellent restaurants and bars around. Both Little Italy and Chinatown are in walking distance. I stayed there with three friends and the hotel said we could all stay in one room. We thought this was great as it would cut down our costs, however the room ...
...Every other hotel I have stayed in in the US have had Queen or Kingsize beds. The other problem with the hotel was the heat. It was winter so the bar conditioning had been turned off but you had no control of the heating in the bedroom. We had to leave the windows open all day and at night had to shut the window due to New York noise but the room became unbearably hot. Reception were not helpful in this matter. the hotel bar was nice except some ... Read review

Review of Edison Hotel, New York City by gemnewbie21

Advantages: got everything so close by
Disadvantages: oldie worldie decour

Edison hotel was built in 1931in true Art Deco style it is situated in the heart of New York. On 228 West 47th Street just half a block from Times Square and one block from restaurant row also either direction you'll have Broadway so the situation of this hotel is perfect. when checking in i was immediately greeted by friendly staff. as usual i thought a lift would take ages and we where on the 7th floor but suprisingly the lifts came quickly. on ...
...the view as it was off a back of the street and became noisy in the morning with lorries delievering stuff. the rooms had really high ceiling with a cupboard with a tv for entertainment and lots of storage for unpackaging. the bathroom was very small , with basic sink, bath and toilet. unfortunately our lock on the bathroom was broken but staff fixed that asap. The hotel made me feel really safe with the security on 24/7. the hotel comprised of a ... Read review

Rude and impossible receptionist
Review of La Quinta Manhattan, New York City by henkwill

Advantages: Nice location
Disadvantages: Impossible reception

...past I stayed at the La Quinta hotel at the Ontario airport in California. There I had the most wonderful stay. I told a friend about it and because of that he stayed at the La Quinta in Santa Rosa New Mexico and had a very pleasant stay as well. Those experiences moved the La Quinta chain clearly up on our lists of hotel-preferences. That's also why I booked the La Quinta again in Manhattan. Accessibility. The hotel is very close to a number of ...
...before (not even in the La Quintain in Los Angeles). He even had the guts to say that he wasn't obliged to let me into the hotel if I didn't show a passport. When I had half of my suitcase unpacked (in order to search for my passport), he complained about the contents of my suitcase being displayed in public, while it was him in the first place who had demanded me to do so. To be frank, I think that this man should find another job. Housekeeping ... Read review

New Yorker Hotel Stay - May 2008
Review of Ramada Plaza & Inn - New Yorker Hotel, New York City by Bodatron

Advantages: Great location, clean and tidy.
Disadvantages: A little dated, but being refurbished.

My wife and I stayed at the New Yorker Hotel between 20th - 25th May 2008. The staff were always very helpful and curtious. The room decor was a little dated, but clean and tidy. The hotel is undergoing a refurbishment, but the work was not noticeable to the guests. The "tick-tock" diner is located in the front entrance of the hotel, which was very good for breakfast, with a great service! The hotel location is great, with the subway just outside ... Advantages: Location
Disadvantages: Snooty staff

Our stay at The Helmsley was May last year.First impressions very nice clean hotel, which is a relief when you see some of the other hotels in the city! The lobby is a good size, the doormen are there but only really seem to want to help the very rich people(bigger tips). The front staff(reception) well 1 in particular didnt really seem to be enjoying her job, seemed not really bothered. To her she has checked in loads of people but for us this was our ...
...sized room. Our room was on the 14th floor,as we looked out of the window there was our view...The Empire state buliding!!Fantastic. Toiletries are replenished everyday,on week days the New York times gets delivered to your room for free.Overall we would stay here again the location is also very good about 10 mins to times square. Its pretty much central to alot of the sights, one of them being Grand Central Station which is just a few minutes down ...
