Advantages: Beautiful decoration, lavish Disadvantages: A few mixups!!
On first appearances this is a wonderful hotel, lavish, expensive and truly worth the money.
The incontinetal Barclay hotel is on 111 East 48th Street, New York, NY 10017 which is pretty much slap bang right in the middle of where everything happens. The Empire State building a 5 minute walk away in one direction and grand central park 5 minutes in the opposite direction.
When you first arrive you will see the hotel stretch into the sky, it is ... ...from the rain. When you book in you cannot help to notice the lavish roof and centrepiece. After 5 miutes of booking in your bags are taken upto your room ready for when you meet them!! The rooms are quite nice with small touches to give the room its finishing details. Unfortunatly there was a problem with our room, the room wasn't made for four and we had to be moved!
The second room, they had to supply us with another bed so my brother and I could ...

Can it get any more classy!!
Advantages: Your staying in a historic Art Deco landmark! Disadvantages: Service could be better....
...I ended up in the Waldorf Astoria!!!
I've stayed in NYC for business before, and I knew to expect small rooms and spend a lot of money. Here, I was staying in the most historic hotel in the US, oozing Art Deco chic from every corner. Your first impression of the hotel is it's impressive Park Avenue frontage, seen many times in movies. The entrance and reception area is stunning . The clock in the reception hall, a stunning timepiece, shows you that ... ...massive king size bed, with the requested cot bed from my daughter. There was a walk in closet, that was huge! The bathroom looked very art deco, and I was a little worried the plumbing might not be up to standard, but there wasn't a problem. I've stayed at the Hyatt Regency 5 star in NYC in the past, and it was a box in style and size compared to the Waldorf.
We had a fax machine in our room, which I had to use due to a mixup with our car rental ...

A palatial palace.
Advantages: Large rooms by NY standards, good service, quality furnishings. Disadvantages: Expensive.
...business trips to Zurich and New York. Whenever I as in New York, I tried to get a room in the New York Palace Hotel and fortunately most of the time I was successful. So this is a hotel I have stayed at on many occasions. By and large, my experiences were similar each time; I always stayed in the same standard of room and I always received the same standard of service from the staff. The New York Palace, or the Palace as I call it, it takes up the ... ...many of the highlights of New York are within easy walking distance. The Rockefeller Plaza is moments away and it is an easy walk to Broadway and Times Square too. When I managed to escape the office, I would sometimes take a stroll north up Madison or 5th Avenue, browsing the shops and it is then not much further to the Frick Collection (5th and 70th) or the Metropolitan Museum of Art (5th and 83rd). Alternatively one can easily head south to the ...

Great Experience in Soho
Advantages: Price, friendly staff, free breakfast Disadvantages: Location for some people maybe
The price of this hotel via Expedia drew me to it but I am SO glad I booked. From the moment you're greeted by the efficient and friendly staff you feel like you've made the right choice. We were greeted daily by the staff and often returned "home" to be offered lemonade or freshly baked cookies. The rooms are modern, clean and with very good facilities. The location, depending on your point of view, was amazing. The surreounding streets are a little ... ...in Soho but it is literally just over the road. A quick walk takes you to the excellent Soho shopping and Tribeca restaurants and also the slightly grittier area of ChinaTown was also minutes away. Subways are close by so it's easy to get to anywhere in the city. Restaurants nearby are amazing... Bubby's, Nobu, Odeon, The Harrison to name a few. We spent 10 days here and the room was easily big enough and comfortable enough for that period of time. ...

Not worth the 4 stars rating
Advantages: Great location, better than a days inn..... Disadvantages: Not MUCH better than a days inn....... not very clean, so-so service.....
...spent 6 nights at the city club hotel of new york city this summer. I looked at pictures of the hotel and other reviews and I made my choice: Booked it in advance. Well, this was supposed to be a 4 stars hotel but it wasn't worth it. The room were nice and service people were always smiling, but you get that in a Days inn. You don't get more than that. We had loads of luggage and nobody helped us with them. they could barely hold the door opened ... ...Algonquin's personnel than from the city club's, even when I told them I was a customer of their next door competitors..... Location of the hotel: GREAT! You are right in the middle of midtown, where most of the great new york things are. Grand central, Times Square, 5th avenue, St-Patrick cathedral, empire state building, chrysler building, Rockefeller center, all within 5 to 20 minutes to reach on foot. Easy access to subway and loads of restaurants ...
