There are far better four star hotels
Review of The Helmsley Park Lane, New York City by
emmiecole
Advantages: Great location
Disadvantages: Certainly not a four star hotel
...elegance and was sadly disappointed. The place looked tired, grubby and in need of a facelift. The bathroom looked like something out of a 1970's motel with peeling watersealing and melamine sink surround. The check-in staff were unattentive and seemed somewhat overworked running all over the place. The pushy bellhop gave me no choice but to take my bags and stood waiting until I gave him a tip and then walked off without thanks. It was extremely ... ...Henri Bendel, Bergdorf Goodman and the lovely toystore FAO Schwatrz are all within a 5 minute walk.
I did not use any of the hotels facilities so can not comment on these.
I would not recommend this hotel to anyone and find it unbelievable The Plaza is in the same class as this when they are clearly worlds apart. The location is great but that counts for little if the hotel is poor. ...

Time out in New York
Review of Hilton Times Square, New York City by
DC22
Advantages: In the heart of the Theatre District
Disadvantages: Breakfast is a waste of time
...etc etc). The Hilton Times Square has two entrances, one on 42nd Street and one on 41st street. When giving directions to your cab driver make sure you give them the 41st street entrance as this is quieter and you have time to get out of the cab without being run over by NYC drivers.
The doormen and bellboys are friendly and the bellboys take you up to the hotel reception on the 21st floor via a fast lift. Check-in was speedy, efficient and friendly. ... ...to their relevant floor. During our three night stay one of the lifts was out of order but this didn't affect the service provided. We never waited more than 10-15 seconds for a lift.
When we got to our room I was surprised at how big it was as friends had warned me New York hotel rooms were nothing to write home about but this was spacious, clean, tastfully decorated and had an amazing view.
The coffee making facilities were in the bathroom and ...

Great location - Good value for money
Review of Metro Hotel, New York City by
cjenni
Advantages: Central location and free breakfast
Disadvantages: Rooms fairly small
We stayed at this hotel in June 2006.
We were allocated a room on a high floor (10th), as requested, with a view out to the street. Room was fairly small (typical for a city centre) but clean and comfortable, having been recently refurbished.
The rooftop terrace/bar is a bonus during the summer - a peaceful escape from the city and the view of the Empire State building adds to its attraction
The included breakfast is excellent and tea, coffee, ...

Schmoosing in the big apple
Review of Gershwin Hotel, New York City by
mussonanna
Advantages: clean, friendly, interesting, comfortable
Disadvantages: some rooms are basic
...your whle checking out the Gershwin Hotel. Located on East 27th street Manhatten, you can't miss it. It's bright red with large white lanternish sculptures protruding out of it.
The area that the hotel is located is Tin pan Alley, the are where much of the music of the 30's and 40's was developed, hense the name gershwin.
This hotel offers something a bit different. It's packed with art for a start - (I'm a poet and I know it!) Infact it is a hotel ... ...is always something going on, with live music most days and even comedy nights and fashion shoots. As for facilities well, fairly basic, wireless hookup, telephone, voicemail, tv, air con etc. The hotels best feature is the atmosphiere. The hotel staff are very friendly and most are bi lingual. The rooms vary massively starting at just $40, you can stay in a bunk bed style room, very basic but fine if your travellling on a budget. The prices go up ...

My home away from home
Review of Comfort Inn Manhattan, New York City by
Delicate_Orchid
Advantages: location, clean, friendly staff
Disadvantages: noise, elevators, sinks, toilet paper, quilts
...soundproof.
I chose the Comfort Inn Manhattan after extensive research. I think the deciding factor for me was that this hotel had received the so-called “Gold Award” for five years in a row. So Did it deserve this prestgious award? ♦ Location ♦ You could not wish for a better location than the Comfort Inn Manhattan. Located between 5th and 6th Avenue on 35th Street, you are within a walking distance of Macy’s, the wealth of stores on ... ...and services ♦
The Comfort Inn Manhattan does not offer any other facilities. It does not have a gym sauna or swimming pool. It does not offer room service, but provides menus of local food establishments from which you can order take away food.
♦ Departure ♦
When we checked out on our final day, I was surprised to find that I still needed to pay a extra mandatory charge of $1.08 per day for the in-room safe. You have to pay ...
