Wellington Hotel : Adequate but not great
Advantages: Location, food available downstairs Disadvantages: Room was small and needed updating
I stayed at the Wellington hotel on my second trip to New York, and the decision was based on a recommendation from the Travel Agent. There were a few people in reception when we arrived and it took about half an hour to be checked in. We had booked one double room and one twin room for our party but were told that there was no twin rooms available so we would have to have a double with a foldaway bed, which someone would bring to the room. When ... ...on it as it seemed to be about 30 years old and ready to collapse at any minute. Fortunately I was staying with my sister so it wasn't really a huge problem that we shared a double bed. I wasn't really happy with the room itself, it was small and the view was of an apartment building not even the street. It was in dire need of updating in the bathroom with rusty pipes clearly visible underneath the sink, and the tiles needing either replacing or ...

Location, Location, Location
Advantages: Great Location and Price Disadvantages: Needed modernising (and now has been)
...bookings, we stayed in a hotel quite far away from mid town. The second time I visited I went with my mum, who had never been and I'd decided we needed somewhere central, although Manhattan isn't massive you want to be near all the touristy bits and pieces. So after looking around I decided being in the thick of it probably wasn't an option as it was all quite expensive. Then I found the Pennsylvania, opposite Madison Square Garden's and Penn Station, ... ...We booked the hotel with a flight and all in all paid £450 each for a return flight with Virgin to JFK and 5 nights' accommodation in the Pennsylvania, I think it was very reasonable, you may have your own thoughts. ~The actual hotel~ It has 1700 rooms and is the fourth largest hotel in New York City. The hotel was purpose built in 1919. A grand 90 years old. The front of the hotel is flat and gives the impression that it is a square building, it ...

Edison hotel New York
Advantages: Rooms are spacious, clean, fresh and everyone is so friendly. Disadvantages: No disadvantges, loved this place.
I visited this hotel with my school in February 2007 and there was a group of 40 with 5 teachers. The group included boys and girls, there were very welcoming when we arrived after a long flight from England and getting up a 4.30. They allowed us up to our rooms, which where very spacious and comfortable. They had big double beds, which could have easily have fitted three people in. The bathroom was spacious and clean with lovley hot water for when ... ...long weary day. They provided us with big white fluffy towels to use after our bath and shower and layed out complimenatry gifts for us to use.
The hotel is just round the corner from Times Square which is buzzing all the time with the bright lights.
I recommend you visit this hotel, with its friendly staff and comfortable beds. ...

The perfect location in New York
Advantages: Brilliant location, modern, big room, huge TV, one of the cheapest hotels Disadvantages: Breakfast is expensive, toilet blocked a couple of times, not enough lifts
The Park Central Hotel New York is in a brilliant location on 56th and 7th right in the centre of everything. A 10 minute walk downtown brings you to Times Square, 2 blocks uptown takes you to Central Park, 5th Avenue shopping is just 1 or 2 blocks to the east and a subway station 20 seconds away to take you to wherever else you want to go. Carnegie Hall is directly opposite and the Rockefeller Centre is less than 10 minutes away. The hotel is surrounded ... ...Irish bar just opposite. The location really couldn't get any better. When we first arrived it was difficult for us for find but that was only because we didn't have a map with us and because the grid system is so confusing at first. We were walking up and down for about 20 minutes until we eventually came across it at practically the same place where we started! The 3.5* hotel looks great from the outside with its revolving doors and door men and ...

Great location, comfortable hotel
Advantages: Location location location. Comfortable large rooms Disadvantages: May appear dated and less cool than other hotels
We found this hotel in midtown west as part of a package through Virgin Holidays and ending up chosing is mainly on the fact it was the cheapest hotel they offered somewhere close to the middle of Manhattan. The hotel is on 10th Avenue, only a couple of blocks from Times Square (where broadway crosses 7th Avenue for an idea of street numbers). Would also add that we walked almost everywhere and felt perfectly safe in the streets around Times Square ... ...people off at much more expensive hotels during our transfer from JFK, I don't think we could have wished for a better location for the price. Our , on the 10th Avenue front of the hotel, had views of the midtown skyline, including the Empire State Building. It may not be the coolest looking hotel in town, in fact it looks like a motel from the outside, but it's comfortable. Our room was on the second floor, quite large with two double (or Queen-size) ...
