Wellington Hotel : Adequate but not great Advantages: Location, food available downstairs Disadvantages: Room was small and needed updating I stayed at the Wellington hotel on my second trip to New York, and the decision was based on a recommendation from the Travel Agent. There were a few people in reception when we arrived and it took about half an hour to be checked in. We had booked one double room and one twin room for our party but were told that there was no twin rooms available so we would have to have a double with a foldaway bed, which someone would bring to the room. I wasn't really happy with the room itself, it was small and the view was of an apartment building not even the street. Location, Location, Location Advantages: Great Location and Price Disadvantages: Needed modernising (and now has been) ...bookings, we stayed in a hotel quite far away from mid town. The second time I visited I went with my mum, who had never been and I'd decided we needed somewhere central, although Manhattan isn't massive you want to be near all the touristy bits and pieces. Well located radisson at a good price Advantages: well located polite service Disadvantages: overpriced food ...week for 5 days, The Radisson Lexington. BOOKING I booked our stay through hotels.co.uk and was paid upfront which sometimes can make it more difficult on arrival, but no problems here. We got the 5 days for a rate of 490 pounds over the easter break which we felt was really good. We had previously held a room on the website and waited for a cheaper rate to appear on the other sites as they are always cheaper. A short block walk or two brings you to the Rockerfeller Centre home to NBC and radio city music hall. Quite amazing how close it all is. The perfect location in New York Advantages: Brilliant location, modern, big room, huge TV, one of the cheapest hotels Disadvantages: Breakfast is expensive, toilet blocked a couple of times, not enough lifts The Park Central Hotel New York is in a brilliant location on 56th and 7th right in the centre of everything. A 10 minute walk downtown brings you to Times Square, 2 blocks uptown takes you to Central Park, 5th Avenue shopping is just 1 or 2 blocks to the east and a subway station 20 seconds away to take you to wherever else you want to go. Carnegie Hall is directly opposite and the Rockefeller Centre is less than 10 minutes away. The hotel is surrounded ... ...Irish bar just opposite. The location really couldn't get any better. When we first arrived it was difficult for us for find but that was only because we didn't have a map with us and because the grid system is so confusing at first. Would Definately Stay Again Advantages: Superb location and newly decorated rooms Disadvantages: A little expensive ...for their breakfasts, and the Doubletree Metropolitan was no exception, however armed with my free breakfast token, I indulged every morning. The food was freshly prepared and there was a wide selection to choose from. Everything from a traditional cooked breakfast to cereals, fruit salads, fresh fruit plus lots more. The food was very nice - but still wouldn't have paid their price for it. The service that the staff in the hotel provided was (with ... ...too much hassle and I didn't feel like I was asking the earth if I needed something. The concierge were brillirant and booked me a helicopter flight with Liberty Helicopters and the porters were always ready to help with luggage storage and they always had a cab ready if you needed it. I would not hesitate to stay at this hotel again and would definitely recommend it to anyone - businesses or pleasure travellers.
