The only other major cities I've been to are Paris and London but New York easily has them both beat. Staying in the Manhattan area which is definitely the ideal place to stay if you can afford it, I was worried that such a big, busy city may seem impersonal, but in reality the small shops on every street, particularly the lovely delis where we bought breakfast every morning, gave the place a feeling of community that I wouldn't have imagined. The sights pretty much speak for themselves, although the view from the top of the empire state building has to be seen to be believed, but what really impressed me was the way that standing in the street, or even looking out the hotel window, you could feel like you were in the centre of the world. So many landmarks from films and tv, on one corner they were filming an advert, another was cordened off for a visit from the president, and there in that store in the corner is Kurt Russell doing his shopping. This really is a magical place to visit and an experience I can't wait to repeat.
