The place where dreams can come true!!
Advantages: Amazing place, swimming with dolphins Disadvantages: Need good weather go in November!!
Bay of Islands
The Bay of Islands are so beautiful it was defiantly one of my favourite places in New Zealand, a lot of people don't before going up past Auckland as they are so busy to get to the South Island but I think they have sadly missed out. It takes about 4 hours to get to Paihia from Auckland, and it is well worth the trip, the scenery on the way is lush and green and will blow you away, Paihia itself is a small friendly place with a few ... ...so nice. The Bay Adventurer Hostel is a must stay in the Bay of Islands, it is defiantly one of the top hostels I have stayed in my whole trip!! It has everything you could need and is also only a stones throw away from the beach! Perfect!! I stayed in a dorm room which was very clean and tidy complete with lockers to store all your valuables. The faculties at the hostel were great complete with swimming pool and Jacuzzi great for relaxing in after ...

Powderhorn Chateau- five star hotel in Tongariro National Park,NZ
Advantages: Luxury, friendly atmosphere Disadvantages: Middle of nowhere if you aren't skiing or hiking
The Powderhorn Chateau is a luxury hotel located on the outskirts of a small skiing town called Ohakune, about half a day’s drive north of Wellington. If you are driving through the area, I strongly recommend it as a place to stay. We came here in April 2009, which is Autumn in New Zealand and not ski season. The price Surprisingly for a luxury hotel, the price is affordable by UK standards even given the current terrible exchange rates, but ... ...around NZD$200 (about £90) per room per night in the summer and NZD$230 (about £100) in the winter. If you can’t afford this for your whole trip, I can recommend a camp site half a mile further down the road for you instead for $6 a night where you can stay for the rest of your holiday! The area It is located at the southernmost edge of the Tongariro National park, on the southern foothills of Mount Ruapehu, a very active volcano which is also ...

Hokiana Heavan!!!
Advantages: Great family run hostel with an 'At Home' feel Disadvantages: Quite small
Globe Trekkers Hostel in Hokianga New Zealand is a family run business, it is a small friendly hostel in the most beautiful setting and only a short walk from the beach. Run by a mother and son from the UK they are both well travelled and in touch with the needs of a backpacker. Hokianga is a small harbour town We arrived in Hokianga by Magic Bus and where pleasantly surprised that the hostel owner came to personally greet us at the bus stop. She ... ...have one dorm room at Globe Trekkers and the rest are double rooms. The owner explained that they have a lot of couples coming to stay and they quite often come back year after year, and I can understand why. Three bathrooms where available for us to use and it was so nice to go into an individual bathroom rather than shared facilities like in many of the hostels. The garden area was just gorgeous, complete with an outside eating area and hammocks ...

Not the best but not the worst
Advantages: Great view on roof, cheap Disadvantages: no free lockers and not that friendly
Albert Park Backpackers in Auckland is a very cheap place to stay, the location is great but it was not the friendliest hostel I have stayed in. I flew in from LA which is a 12 hour flight and was pretty tired as I am sure you can imagine, I pleased that the directions I had from the hostel where easy to follow, I just had to jump on a shuttle bus, this was easy to find and cost $15.
Address: Albert Park Backpackers
27-31 Victoria Street East
... ...Reception:
The staffs at Albert Park are friendly enough but are not very forthcoming when it comes to giving out information. I really felt that a lot more information could have been given to us when we arrived to save visitors having to keep coming back to reception. Rooms: When I arrived at the hostel I checked in and got in the lift to my room on the 4th floor of the 5 floor building.
Linen is not provided you have to give a deposit of $2 ...

Excellent choice of accommodation
Advantages: Geothrmal spa pool Disadvantages: none
...had a great time at Karaka Tree Motel in Taupo - the motel is just across the road from Lake Taupo and has AMAZING geothermal pools in every room - ours was huge - and very refreshing to lounge around in with a glass of wine after we had walked around all day.
The manager there was lovely and really helpful - he helped us organise our trip, and gave us good advice on what was going on in Taupo during our stay there. The room was big and comfortable ...
