...of them. The Paihia Pacific Resort Hotel is situated in the Bay of Islands, on the North Island. This was our base for two nights while we visited 'nearby' Cape Reinga, which was, in fact, about 4-5 hours drive away at the very northernmost tip of the island. ...This is where the Paihia Pacific came into its own. The two male owners were fab and were very 'hands on'. We saw them many times throughout our short stay and they were always on hand with a joke and were very friendly and helpful. There are a couple of other staff, a lady and a young guy that work in the restaurant. Advantages: Great family run hostel with an 'At Home' feel
Disadvantages: Quite small

Globe Trekkers Hostel in Hokianga New Zealand is a family run business, it is a small friendly hostel in the most beautiful setting and only a short walk from the beach. Run by a mother and son from the UK they are both well travelled and in touch with the needs of a backpacker. ...have one dorm room at Globe Trekkers and the rest are double rooms. The owner explained that they have a lot of couples coming to stay and they quite often come back year after year, and I can understand why. Three bathrooms where available for us to use and it was so nice to go into an individual bathroom rather than shared facilities like in many of the hostels.
