Bay of Islands The Bay of Islands are so beautiful it was defiantly one of my favourite places in New Zealand, a lot of people don't before going up past Auckland as they are so busy to get to the South Island but I think they have sadly missed out. ...so nice. The Bay Adventurer Hostel is a must stay in the Bay of Islands, it is defiantly one of the top hostels I have stayed in my whole trip!! It has everything you could need and is also only a stones throw away from the beach! Perfect!! I stayed in a dorm room which was very clean and tidy complete with lockers to store all your valuables. We reserved a lake view studio suite which we received but it was on the ground floor in the corner and was told we would not be able to change rooms because all other similar rooms were sold out in our category. Thats fine but all 6 nights and no one contacted us concerning a room change the entire stay after our request was put in. One of the main reasons we picked the hotel was for the Internet service in the room. No where on the website or during ...
...charge for Internet service. Started looking for the coffee plunger that was to be in our suite and opened up the dishwasher to find it full of dishes! They were clean though. After putting the dishes away a coffee plunger was immediately brought to us. Now here is the one that made me write this review...we pull back the bed and found the sheets had not been changed! ...This is where the Paihia Pacific came into its own. The two male owners were fab and were very 'hands on'. We saw them many times throughout our short stay and they were always on hand with a joke and were very friendly and helpful. There are a couple of other staff, a lady and a young guy that work in the restaurant. Globe Trekkers Hostel in Hokianga New Zealand is a family run business, it is a small friendly hostel in the most beautiful setting and only a short walk from the beach. Run by a mother and son from the UK they are both well travelled and in touch with the needs of a backpacker. ...have one dorm room at Globe Trekkers and the rest are double rooms. The owner explained that they have a lot of couples coming to stay and they quite often come back year after year, and I can understand why. Three bathrooms where available for us to use and it was so nice to go into an individual bathroom rather than shared facilities like in many of the hostels. Albert Park Backpackers in Auckland is a very cheap place to stay, the location is great but it was not the friendliest hostel I have stayed in. I flew in from LA which is a 12 hour flight and was pretty tired as I am sure you can imagine, I pleased that the directions I had from the hostel where easy to follow, I just had to jump on a shuttle bus, this was easy to find and cost $15. ...Reception: The staffs at Albert Park are friendly enough but are not very forthcoming when it comes to giving out information. I really felt that a lot more information could have been given to us when we arrived to save visitors having to keep coming back to reception.
