Advantages: Not as busy as JFK Disadvantages: Currently unorganized and unfriendly
...I have been travelling to USA for over five years now and have visited JFK and Newark.
Newark has several advantages over JFK.
To get to JFK involves traveling on some of the busiest roads in NewYork. Although Newark is in a busy section of the region, the roads are generally less full and the access is easier.
Newark is generally less busy than JFK, although there are just as many international flights many people prefer to use JFK rather than Newark.
Newark is currently undergoing improvements which make a nightmare to commute to and from. The road infrastructure is completely changing, and the parking lots are being improved. While I am sure this will help in the future, it makes it a nightmare to get in and out of the airport now!
Additionally the interior is changing. Newark is a sprawling unorganized airport that is unfriendly...

Advantages: Major city near major airports Disadvantages: Very gloomy and full of concrete
.... The station was not very clean, the café uninviting and the station very unfriendly and confusing. I kept a nonchalant attitude and moved to find a cab.
The trains are on time and generally well maintained, however the station, due to its size can be very confusing.
By Cab
Finding a cab was an experience in itself, many people were looking for cabs and none are polite enough to form a line and wait patiently. It seems that you have to be rude, push in and shout! Having finally managed to coax a cab driver to pick me up I began to enjoy the scenery around me as we hurtled through the Newark streets.
By Air
With New York within easy commute there are three main Airports within reach. JFK, LaGuardia and Newark International airports are all large airports. Although Newark is the easiest to get into and out of, avoiding much of the New York...

Advantages: Convenience for NY visitors, excellent public transport links Disadvantages: Lack of facilities
...If you are travelling to New York City, it's well worth considering flying into Newark. Despite being located in another state, it's actually closer to the City than either JFK or LaGuardia - just a 20 minute train journey from Penn Station in the heart of midtown. It's also worth bearing in mind that flights into Newark from the UK are in my experience less busy than flights to the other airports.
The terminal links and the link to the train and bus departure points are excellent, and I found the check in and baggage collection procedures to be very efficient. Security however continues to be shockingly lax, given the measures in place here in the UK, though a police/military presence is highly visible for the concerned traveller.
The only real problem with Newark is the lack of facilities - it's a large and pretty souless building...

If you want to stay in Central New York then this is the hotel to book. It is actually IN Times Square! It's a huge modern hotel with over 45 floors so some of the views are great. There is a bar at the top which is a lovely place to have a drink,... more
The New Yorker is in an excellent midtown location with the subway (lines A, C & E) literally steps outside. Being on the corner of 8th Avenue and 34th Street this meant good access to Macy's, Empire State Building, Madison Square Gardens and the... more
Postmodernism, eh? It's a funny old bag of fish. Even the holier-than-thou critics don't quite seem to know what it's all about. They argue whether it's
a) a revolt against modernism,
b) a progression of modernism,
c) both of these and more
or d) more
