I seriously believe that the people of Newcastle deliberately keep the seaside town of Whitley Bay a secret so that they can keep it all to themselves.
This town has one of the largest and cleanest beaches that I have seen in this country and there never seems to be hardly anybody on this beach. We love to go to Whitley Bay and have stayed in Hotels, Bed and Breakfasts and Caravans. Every time we have stayed in the town we have wanted to stay for longer. There is such a good atmosphere there, during the day a very relaxed peaceful town and in the evenings, particularly at the weekends, a thriving lively exciting town.
The local people of Whitley Bay are so friendly and helpful that they always make you feel so welcome. The town has all the attractions of a good seaside town with plenty of places to eat and drink as well as many attractions for the children and a good selection of local shops.
There is a fun fair at Spanish City, an excellent indoor swimming pool, amusement arcades, gift and souvenir shops, restaurants, cafes and fish & chip shops.
Whitley Bay is only a short distance from the centre of Newcastle and a great launch pad to explore the lovely county of Northumbria with its historic castles and islands.
If you have never been to Whitley Bay then put in on your list of “must” places to visit. You will be very pleasantly surprised.
The town is very popular with local people as it is only a short ride on the Newcastle Metro transport system to get to the town. At the north end of Whitley Bay there is a large caravan park for visitors and along the sea front a very wide selection of Bed & Breakfast establishments, guest houses and hotels.
In the Winter there are no tourists. The whole of the sea front part of the town seems to be closed. You can walk on the beach and be lucky to see more than half a dozen people. It is a very strange eerie feeling, seeing the heart of a seaside resort all closed up.
But, whether it is Summer or Winter there is one part of Whitley Bay that is always alive and kicking. That is Friday and Saturday nights. Around the pubs and clubs there will be hoards of youngsters all out to enjoy themselves, and enjoy themselves they will! People descend on the town by Metro, bus, taxi, car or on foot. You cannot believe so many people can appear in the town. The atmosphere is fantastic, there is so much laughter and enjoyment. Many times I have been to Whitley Bay and I have never seen any trouble in the town. Yes, it is loud, yes it is busy, but everybody seems to know how to enjoy themselves without anything getting out of hand.
There is a Whitley Bay for you. You just need to decide when to visit the town to get the type of atmosphere you want.

I agree entirely. Howerver, Spanish City isn't there anymore and the site is currently being redeveloped...hope this doesn't spoil your holls too much! Jo :)
