Excellent Service, Great Food
Advantages: see review Disadvantages: see review
...to book a table at Azzurri in Newcastle (on the Quayside) as a surprise for my mam and we invited my Nana and my aunties and uncles. There’s too many of us for the whole family (cousins and their children) to all go for a meal together but we ended up with a party of 13. My dad had been here with work previously and he knew that it was nice which is why he chose this as the location.
My dad did most of the booking via email or on the phone, but ... ...there was a large party we were given a choice of three set menus at three different prices per person (£20, £25 and £30). This offered a choice of 4 starters, 4 main course and 2 deserts. We all managed to choose something we liked from this.
The Restaurant
The restaurant has a large bar area and if you reserve a table for eating at, you can also get an area in the bar which is reserved for your party. This was good, but when we complained ...

The Powerhouse Gay Nightclub Newcastle June 2009
Advantages: Easy to make Conversations, Not everyone was rude Disadvantages: High Prices, Some Rude Staff & Customers, Dirty Carpets, Crowded Toilets
...gay pubs and then the Powerhouse on a drinking session take over £100 out with you, (or do what many people seemed to do and that was get into the night club and not buy any drinks or get one drink to last the whole night). The prices might reflect the cost of going out in Newcastle as some people did not seem to recogn that these prices were that high; but I did see a straight bar that night in Newcastle that was selling drinks for a very cheap ... ...powerhouse a fair and a bit generous 2 star rating. It would have to be terrible to get a one star but nonetheless, although it had some good points I will look for another venue if I decide to drink in Newcastle again. If people annoy me on purpose when I have had a drink I am scared of getting angry with them and facing a criminal record! With me being a student the experience cost way too much money but even for people with a very well paid job ...

I like it
Advantages: Good atmosphere and hearty portions Disadvantages: May be too much entertainment at the weekend!
As you like it
Situated in Jesmond, a short car drive from the centre of Newcastle upon Tyne, this is one of those places which I think you would have to know it was there; there is little chance that you would be passing, and so go in for a meal.
First impressions are of a rather unattractive building set in a rather bleak square just off the by pass. It's almost certainly somewhere which unless I hade been before I would go to on the assumption ... ...floor is all stripped pine as are the tables, and all of the chairs, chandeliers, and accessories seem to have been bought at various junk shops and placed in the restaurant. It was whilst I was pondering the placing of a large screen next to our table that I realised this is probably exactly what had been done. It's the kind of décor which will either appeal or not. Similarly, the fact that there is an open gallery, and the sights and sounds of ...

All Aboard the Curry Train!
Advantages: Fun night out Disadvantages: Not good for a romantic meal
All Aboard the curry train!
Every month or so, we take it in turns to decide on a venue for a meal and this time, 10 of us were off on the "curry train", or the "Passage to India" train.
GETTING THERE…
No parking to worry about. The staff meet people under the clock at Newcastle Central Station, and you are free to collect your menu and then go back into Centurion Bar until the train leaves at 19:10. The train is the normal Newcastle to Carlisle ... ...cost of £10.45. Expensive, but the bottles do come with special Valley Junction labels and they have a captive audience.
After about half an hour, the train arrives at Corbridge and it's off the train and onto the restaurant. During the half hour journey, there is no time to get bored as there is drink being served, and it is at this stage that you place your order so that they can phone orders straight to the restaurant.
The restaurant is a short ...

Francesca's Newcastle - live up to the hype?
Advantages: Value for money, atmosphere, courteous and helpful staff Disadvantages: Accessibility, desserts
Francesca's is a legendary name in Newcastle and I had wanted to see for myself if it lived up to its reputation, having read one or two very poor reviews as well as many excellent ones. We were a group of 9 visiting on a Saturday in July. Luckily we were able to join the queue indoors, as it was raining when we arrived. I'd heard that parking would be a severe problem but had assumed that would be due to a lot of parked traffic round and about, ... ...streets for quite some distance around the restaurant being permit-only parking in the mornings and also during the crucial 5-10pm slot, which was deeply frustrating as they are clearly student lets for the most part and 95% of those spaces were free. We finally found a spot some 5 minutes walk away which wasn't too bad. Queueing to get in seems to be one of the most loved features at Francesca, as if that in itself is a stamp of quality for the ...
