I went to the University of Northumbria for 3 years, and although I have been left a while I still go back for shopping and a night out on a regular basis. The nightlife is good, but maybe Im a bit biased as I met my Husband there! There are plenty of shops both in the centre of Newcastle and also the nearby Metro Centre. Once the sun goes down there are three main areas for pubs - the Haymarket which is near the Universities, so fairly studenty (check out Cafe Pacific for super cocktails and food - less studenty on a weekend), the Bigg Market for real party animals and the Quayside for the more sophisticated! My favourite pubs on the Quayside are Offshore and Chase. Also, check out the Piano and Pitcher which is a bit of a walk from where the main pubs are. Newcastle has quite a few nightclubs, but none are particularly fantastic. A new one called 'Bah Hah Beach Club' has opened recently over the bridge in Gateshead. Its good once you get in, but be prepared to queue for a lonnnnggg time!!
All in all though, a good time will be had by all!
