Newport Beach Break

Advantages: Clean, Small selection of Shops & "Hooters"
Disadvantages: Maybe not a lot of things to do

...Firstly you will have to forgive me, for my experineces in Newport Beach was in November of 2000, and maybe a lot has changed since.... I was on a 3 week vacation, visiting the west coast of America, and I was staying with a couple of good freinds of mine at Anihiem, Orange County, we had already visited Disney Land and seen many of the other attractions around Anahiem such as the Crystal Cathedral and so today we decided to head to the beach... It was a really hot day and we set off early from our motel with a map, and started walking to where we were told we could catch a bus to Newport Beach....The walk was a lot further than what we had anticipated, and what we thought was only a few blocks away was infact a walk of what seemed like a mile or so in the baking heat... after eventually reaching the main highway heading... Advantages: Clean, good facilities, safe, plenty of parking, easy to get to
Disadvantages: John Wayne/Orange County Airport has its flight path over the beach but that could be a plus point for some people

...Newport Beach is a small city of 75,000 people on the California coast about 20 miles due south of Disneyland Resort and about 50 miles south-east of Los Angeles. The city itself has a few office high rises and lots of houses but most visitors are concerned with the ocean front and the awesome beach area. I visited the ocean front here in November 2002 and although over a year and a half ago I'm sure it wouldn’t have changed much or for that matter is allowed to change as quite a few of the houses here are over 100 years old. Most of these are holiday homes and I have been told are hired out by students on their Spring break so I can imagine it getting quite busy here at that time but in November it was pleasantly warm and we had most of the beach to ourselves. ..., is Caerphilly castle and, Castle Coch, a fairytale castle set in woodland walks. Take a trip to the Welsh valleys and see Big Pit, an underground mine you can walk around. For a full day out, nothing can compare with the beaches of the Gower Peninsula, near Swansea. This wild, unspoilt area is home to protected species of birds. There are also a few good camping sites for caravans or tents. To the East of Newport lies an abundance of castles, churches and the beautifully haunting Tintern abbey, which inspired famous artists of the calibre of Turner and the poetry of Tennyson and Wordsworth.Travel through the Wye valley and stop off at Symonds Yat to see the rapids, or take a cruise along the river.
