...We had immense trouble deciding on a hotel for my husband's birthday break in Amsterdam. We're trying to find a reasonably priced hotel that wasn't too shabby and in a decent location. After reviewing all the options, we went for the NH City Centre, if only because of it's 1920's styling and proximity to town.
We were not disappointed. The hotel is lovely with each room finished beautifully, if you like the modern thing (and we do!). The overall atmosphere is very calm and serene.
It took us forever to find the hotel, but that may have been because I insisted, as I had been to Amsterdam a couple of times before, that finding our way around would be easy, we could walk there and we didn't need a map. About an hour later we finally found the back of the hotel, exhausted from dragging our suitcases up and down a zillion canals...

...Ghent to us, Gand in French and Gent for the Flemish: bear this in mind, as I nearly ended up in Genk....in the South when in the station in Brussels. This was my first short visit to Belgium and I have decided I love the place. Brussels itself just seemed scary as all we saw was the train station and airport, think london underground rush hour....eek, however Ghent itself is a compact and beautiful city, with most of the sights centre around the main square Baafsplein, which has a magnificent cathedral (st. BAVOS) at one end and the tourist information at the other, with many little taverns and restaurants, and not a long walk from the Stadhuis and St. Niklaskerk, both of which are worth seeing. The people are very friendly, most speaking perfect English, which was useful when I found out the hard way that it is a Flemish speaking area...

Advantages: A beautiful location, great hospitality Disadvantages: Long circuit
...I was extremely fortunate to have spent last weekend as a guest of Jaguar Racing at the Spa Formula 1 Grand Prix. Whilst I realise that this opinion will concentrate on the corporate side of visiting the event, rather than as a member of the general public, I still wanted to share what was an unbelievable weekend.
Our trip started on Friday afternoon when we headed off to Belgium (unfortunately we couldn’t get to the Friday practice sessions!) Our journey took us through the Channel Tunnel, then driving via Dunkirk, Antwerp and Liege to our hotel destination, which was in a town called Genk; approximately 45 minutes drive from the circuit. The drive from Calais took approximately 3 hours without any stops, which was not too bad.
The weekend proper started on Saturday morning when we headed off to Spa. The circuit is actually...

Anyone who has read any of my previous reviews will have probably realised that I will use any excuse to travel. This year the plan was to spend most of it at home as we are saving money for our wedding, but when one of my friends announced that he was... more
