Kiss and fly!
Review of Nice Airport by anwar

Advantages: see review
Disadvantages: see review

...flying in or out of Nice cote D'azure airport. Getting there. ************ Nice airport is situated 7 km west of Nice city centre. It is very well signposted from all directions. I like the fact that there is a separate bit of motorway that leads only to the airport. There are 2 terminals and getting to either really is very easy. Parking. *********** There are numerous car parks at the airport. If you just need to drop someone off then there ...
...I have dealt with leaving Nice first. Now let me tell you about our arrival! Flying into Nice airport will give you stunning views of the surrounding mountains and Sea below. Once on the ground it is a short walk to the baggage reclaim area. I suggest you have a few euros to hand as you will need them for a trolley. There are useful change machines in the area however if you forget! Unfortunately B.A had managed to lose my car seat. I queued along ... Read review

What a great place!
Review of Vieille Ville (Old Town), Nice by shamis4

Advantages: So much to do
Disadvantages: Can be busy

...visit the old town (or Vieille Nice as it is known there). During the day the old town is very busy with a large food market full of all local produce from fish to bread. There is a large section where you can buy all types of locally caught fish, or you can buy croissants and baguettes from any of the local stores. Of course you can also buy other things such as flowers and local paintings which are beautiful. You can also pop into any of the ...
...some lunch. Alternatively if you are feeling rather hot pop into Fennochios where you can buy ice cream with over 100 different flavours to choose from. In the night this area of Nice becomes even more vibrant with a new market full of all types of gifts from jewellery and bags to soap and sculptures. There are loads of restaurants to choose from with very nice food from steaks to mussels. There are also a variety of bars, clubs and cafes such ... Read review

A Nice Starting Place
Review of Place Massena, Nice by Mainy

Advantages: Access all areas
Disadvantages: None

The Place Messena sits in central Nice and is the best place to start any visit to the city. It's a open square (piazza) which hints at the areas pre-French history. Place Messena is only a short walk from the bus station, (follow the park towards the sea), and from the railway station turning left walk for only a couple of minutes you reach walk down Avenue Jean Medicin (away from the bridge/fly-over & the brilliantly named Maison du Pantalons!). ...
...from the old town/hill). Place Messen has been largely pedestrianised and will have trams running through it, (when they're finished). On my first visit it was busy with cars and traffic - very unfriendly for wandering tourists. Now it is open, paved and the atmosphere is much more relaxed and less frenetic. Behind the arches, at ground level, many of the small shops stay open into the evening. The view is open to a large fountain as are those ... Read review

A Walk on the Prom!
Review of Promenade des Anglais, Nice by bluejules

Advantages: Lovely location
Disadvantages: Pebble beach

...the Radisson SAS on La Promenade Des Anglais (Walk of the English). Our hotel wasn't far from the airport so out taxi journey was short and we travelled along the road of the promenade to reach the hotel. It was a pleasant journey along the sea front as the sea was a gorgeous blue, which made it look really appealing. The sun was shining and there were people everywhere so I was more excited about my holiday already. ~ Background ~ Before Nice ...
...construction of a walkway. The Promenade was first called the Camin dei Anglès (the English Way) by the Niçois in their native dialect Nissart. The name was changed to Las Promenade Des Anglais (the French translation) in 1860. ~ First Impressions ~ The first thing I noticed about the area was the gorgeous blue sea and the fact that the beach wasn't sand like you'd normally expect. Instead it consisted of pebbles. I don't like sand so I thought ... Read review

Revolutionary Building
Review of Cathedrale Orthodoxe Russe St-Nicolas a Nice, Nice by Mainy

Advantages: Location, Cracking building
Disadvantages: Not for action men/women

St Nicolas Cathedral was the first of that flavour of religion outside mother Russia. The Russian Royals and hangers on used to visit the Riviera rather than stay at home with the peasants. Their gallivanting - for which they paid a heavy price - is Nice's gain. It's a very spectacular building and sits in pleasant surroundings less than 10 minutes walk from the main railway station. Though central it's an oasis of peace and quiet. The fabulous ...
...is in tip-top condition. Gold leaf, ornate tiles/brickwork, well painted - all shiny and bright. Don't neglect the other less colourful, yet interesting building round the back. Entrance to the equally impressive interior is 3 Euros. +'s : Visit and chill out for a while. There is a Russian shop and a very handy patisserie just beside it. -'s : Occasional coach parties. No ramp access. Don't expect excitement but you can bribe the more vigorous ... Read review
