Nice, mon paradis!

Advantages: Short cheap flight, sun, food, scenery, nice people, city AND beach
Disadvantages: Pricey, have to risk life and limb sliding down a minor scree slope into the sea!

...down to Prague or Nice; Nice won (could it be the promise of sun and seaside?!) Plus it only cost us about £20 each more than Bath believe it or not!

TRAVEL

The flight was easy to book and went without a hitch although it meant an early start for the 7am plane. There is 1 flight a day from Leeds/Bradford in the season and there appear to be plenty of easyjet flights and various others from several UK airport. ...
...HISTORY

Nice is France's 5th largest city with about 400,000 inhabitants and is situated on the Cote d'Azur on France's south coast, about 25 miles from the Italian border. It goes back to a Greek settlement called Nikaia which was begun pre Christ, and the Romans settled there in the early centuries AD. There are 2 museums about Nice's history, the Terra Amata about the prehistoric site ( we didn't get there but it sounded interesting) ... more

Nice to see you Nice

Advantages: Fountains, Sea, Sun, Mountains and all for free
Disadvantages: Pebbles, French men who think they are it

Nice or Nizza as the locals know it. You've probably seen photos etc. I stayed here for four months it must have been about five years ago as part of my studies for European Business Studies with the University of Hertfordshire. I lived in Nice for four months as a student, in Valence (next to Lyons) working for six months and then about 3 years ago I lived in Caen in Normandy for four months. Each of these locations are so different as you would ...
...believe. I flew once to Nice and was allowed to view the alps from the cockpit. I know this will no longer be an option thanks to recent events but maybe you will be able to see them from the airplane seat. Other travel methods could include channel tunnel and then via TGV train down to Lyons (fastest train in Europe I believe). Got my photos out in front of me for this one. I stayed in Nice from September to January and was told that my timing ...

LA PROMENADE DES ANGLAIS

Advantages: Nice, a big town, on the sea side, close to mountains, good life.
Disadvantages: So often fully booked even on low period due to congresspeople.

...cloudy, rainy, windy and frozen, Nice is still sunny (more than 280 days per year) and warm in summer time (average temperature 26 - 30°) not cold in winter time (almost 12 - 20°). Last time I remember snow in Nice, it was 1986! and believe me it was such a mess on the roads and everywhere, no schools, most of the shops were closed, but good time and superbe pictures from the famous Promenade des Anglais covered by snow! Nice is located close to ...
...main place of the Historic Nice : Cours Saleya (Flower Market), behind you that the sea front for a midnight bath it's yummy! Let's talk about the scenery, if you are courageous you can climb the Castle Hill (in spite there is no castle at all only remains of ancient romain therms). Situated in the area of the old town at the top there is a cascade and up the cascade a panoramic place with a superb point of view of the rooves and domes of the city ...

An Opinion On Nice Without Puns

Advantages: Lots to do Good climate Great Food
Disadvantages: Not the best beach in the world

Nice the fifth largest city of France only became french in 1860 with a population of 350,000 it offers many attractions to its thousands of visitors each year. It makes an admirable hub from which to visit the many interesting towns and villages of the area. The shopping available is both varied and competitive and you are more likely to find a bargain here than in Cannes or St. Tropez. It also offers a fine selection of museums. If you are just ...
...of where to eat in Nice is so varied that I will not go into detail. At most times of the year it is a pleasure to dine on the terraces and it is only on the coldest of winter nights when this is not possible. Make sure to visit the Cours Saleya in the Vieux Nice ( Old Nice ) which is packed with restaurants to suit all tastes and budgets. It is here that during the day you will find the famous flower market where you will also be able to buy fresh ...

Go for the shopping and nightlife, not the beach

Advantages: Shops, sun, sea...
Disadvantages: No sand

Nice is an absolutely beautiful place. I have been there three times already (1994/1998/2000)and will hopefully be going back there later this year. The type and variety of shops is astounding. In the Vieux Nice (old town) there are winding streets of small and reasonably priced shops selling everything from olive oil to sweet children's clothes made of tradtional fabrics to hand made jewellery. This can provide hours of meandering, not forgetting ...
...The nightlife in Nice is pretty good, but expensive. The Cours Saleya is the main focus us the nightlife where bars such as the Trois Diables and Zoom line the streets and don't close until the last people leave. In the Summer time they are very busy and you will meet other friendly tourists from all over the world (I met Mexicans, Italians, Danes and other British visitors). The nightlife is not so busy out of the high season. When I visited in ...

Better Than The Biscuits

Advantages: Relaxing, great weather, fantastic views, lots of interesting markets
Disadvantages: Beach isn't great, probably over-crowded in the summer

...café and eat baguettes, then Nice is as good a place as any. Located on the Cote D'Azur (or French Riviera), Nice is a refreshing change of pace if you've just come from Italy, Barcelona or even Paris. Okay, so it's still rather touristy, but in a relatively laid back, unintrusive sort of way (does that make sense?). The weather is almost always gorgeous, the views spectacular and there are loads of cheap eateries and interesting little markets. ...

very nicccccccccccccccce!

Advantages: Nothing compares
Disadvantages: none

I bought two tickets to travel to go by Eurostar to France with my litlle brother, and the service is very very nice. It is quickly, and the train is just perfect. I also coming back from France to UK I just didn't pay attention, or not attention enough and I didn't get off where I should, so next stop Victoria in London. I did explain the situation at the Eurostar desk and they gave to me two free tickets to my destination because I missed in the first place. Very nice! ...

DO NOT USE HOLIDAY AUTOS

Advantages: Slightly cheaper car rental
Disadvantages: A nightmare getting a refund in the event of a claim

I took out the fully comprehensive package with Holiday Autos when I hired a car in Nice France., thinking I would be covered for all eventualities. When I picked the car up from Europcar I was asked if I wanted to take out fully comprehensive insurance!!! I told them I already had. They told me '"not with us you haven't". They then explained that if anything happened I would have to claim from you. Something did happen and I am attempting to claim from them. In my opinion, I was therefore, mis-sold insurance. Trading Standards agree with me. Over six weeks later I have still not been refunded the cost of this unfortunate experience. When I returned from France I contacted their customer relations and explained in no uncertain terms, how unhappy I was not to have had this explained to me. They apologized and told me that it should have ...
