For my first opinion on CIAO.UK, I am writing about my natural born town : Nice. Wherever weather is cloudy, rainy, windy and frozen, Nice is still sunny (more than 280 days per year) and warm in summer time (average temperature 26 - 30°) not cold in winter time (almost 12 - 20°). Last time I remember snow in Nice, it was 1986! and believe me it was such a mess on the roads and everywhere, no schools, most of the shops were closed, but good time and superbe pictures from the famous Promenade des Anglais covered by snow!
Nice is located close to the italian frontier, so many italian influences (the town is french since 1865) : clothes at the balconies ready to dry, restaurants propose plates like pizzas, soccas, lasagna, etc... and finally juste come for New Year's eve and you will understand how much italian love the French Riviera.
But we do have English and Irish Pubs also. British influences since the early last century but more from the last twelve years. My best English pub is CHEZ WAYNE, not only for the several kind of beers served in pint, not only for the big screen to watch Premier League football play but also for that feeling, fun and friendly atmosphere. My favorite Irish pub is SCARLETT for the Irish Coffee of course well prepared really delicious, so creamy. You can also get to THOR, scandinavian style, pretty girls and they know everything about beverage, situated in the main place of the Historic Nice : Cours Saleya (Flower Market), behind you that the sea front for a midnight bath it's yummy!
Let's talk about the scenery, if you are courageous you can climb the Castle Hill (in spite there is no castle at all only remains of ancient romain therms). Situated in the area of the old town at the top there is a cascade and up the cascade a panoramic place with a superb point of view of the rooves and domes of the city and further to Antibes and Cannes and the snowy mountains on winter times. Great.
Once you are in Nice, you can easily get to Monaco (20 KM) or Cannes (25 KM), Nice is half way between the both famous towns. It will be better to get to Antibes or Cannes sandy beaches (private or public) rather than Nice's rocky beaches only stones but the famous Promenade des Anglais is a 7 KM sidewalk, great for rollerskating, running or bikes.
From London with EasyJet, Nice is easy to get only 2 1/2 hours and prices are really cheap if you book in advance by Internet : www.easyjet.com. By chance you can come once in Nice but you will need to come back many times. I will apreciate to give you good advices if you ask me to, so please do not hesitate to use my Email.
***********June 9th************* Last night rollerblade race at night on The Promenade ... yeahhhhhhhhhh :)

Advantages: Relaxing, great weather, fantastic views, lots of interesting markets Disadvantages: Beach isn't great, probably over-crowded in the summer

Review of Nice (France)
Advantages: Short cheap flight, sun, food, scenery, nice people, city AND beach Disadvantages: Pricey, have to risk life and limb sliding down a minor scree slope into the sea!
