Nicon Hilton Hotel, Abuja

Advantages: CLEAN, LOW CRIME, GOOD TOURIST ATTRACTION, STATE OF THE ART INFRASTRUCTURE
Disadvantages: RELATIVELY EXPENSIVE AND A DEVELOPING ENETERTAINMENT SCENE

...populated as Lagos. There are streetlights and walking lights that function well. The roads are of good standard and the water is clean enough for drinking. In terms of housing, the government is constantly demolishing illegal buildings, so the houses on ground are generally of good quality. The electric and water supply is very good but not perfect, many houses have water tanks and generators. Abuja has a very good selection of hotels; the famous Nicon Hilton and Sheraton are very good. I have slept in the Nicon Hilton and the room service was good as well as the food. The swimming pool is very big and there is a mini zoo within the grounds. I have eaten from lunch several times in Sheraton and there was a wide variety of Continental as well as African foods. These hotels are worth every naira you spend on them. There are many plazas... ...An eventful recent (March 2008) visit in order to compile this review, but more about that aspect later. This hotel is part of the international Hilton chain, and was chosen by my wife and I for a winter/spring weekend break for us along with our 16 month-old little boy. We have stayed at numerous Hilton group hotels previously in the UK and in other parts of the world and have usually been pleased with their standards. This was a 'last minute' booking, so we had to take what was available, and on initially being offered 'Coventry' we weren't too keen - we had visions of not talking to one another whilst we were there !! However I can say that we were pleasantly surprised by the hotel. It was very easy to find, especially with a sat-nav! However without the aid of technology and relying on a good old-fashioned map... ...We booked the room online at www.Hilton.co.uk, Hilton guarantee that their best rates are available online. We booked a few months in advance and got a really good rate. Rates do change, at the moment double roms are £110 per night with guest room plus rooms £134. Because I boked well in advance i got a double plus room (gets a sea view, fluffy bath robes etc) for under £100. The Wbsite has info about the hotel including pictures of rooms etc The hotel is relatively modern with lots of car parking. When we checked in Reception was busy but was very efficient. All the public areas of the hotel were spotlessly clean On balance a hotel that I'm likely to stay at again. I stayed on a Sunday, arriving in time for Sunday lunch. The Restaurant, the Promenade, has a Carvery which was extremely good with starters of either soup or a help... Read review
