When we visited Singapore we were told that you cannot miss out on the Night safari. This provide to be very true. We decided to visit the zoo with an organised tour from the hotel we were staying at (Shangria-la). Which proved to be a bit pricey about 70 Singapore dollars and also add alot of hanging around in a coach.(Wouldn't do the tour again) later we discovered it would cost $20 (around £10) taxi there and about the same again to get into the Park. The park opens at 7ish, we didn't get there till after 9, but still had time for a guided tour and to see some of the displays. We didn't get a chance to walk around the park which was a shame, but I don't feel we missed out on too much.
The Tram ride and guided tour lasted for about 45 minutes and drove around the park so you could view the animals in relative comfort. The guide was very informative about all the animals, but had to keep reminding people not to use flash photography (people don't listien). The animals themseleves stole the show as you would hope. The enclosures were well built it really felt that there was nothing between you and the animals. Quite something as you stop by the lions. The one thing this zoo/safari has is awake animals all the resedients are naturally night animal and they are out prowling and hunting , a very different experince. My children were thrilled by the whole experince. The tour stops half way around allowing you to get off and explore on foot and catch another tram. Back at the beginning of the tour you have a choice of an animal show which is shown on a first come first served basis (missed this due to late arrival)or the many different walks. In the main area there is all the shops well one big souveniur shop ,one small kiosk, ice cream shop, bar, and cafe style eaterie also there are displays in this area where you can pet some of the animals and have your photo taken with them, again the staff are on hand to answer questions. We were lucky enough at this time to see a tribal fire dance this got very hot and frightened the children alittle untill it was over when they claimed it was brillant. The dancing group did about 1/2 hr display fire eating, using blow pipes and dancing with bamboo through this they manged to get some brave volunteers to join in. After this the park was readying itself to close about midnight and we took some very exhausted children back to the coach for the joureny back. We were told later that the Night safari is actually the Singapore zoo and can be visited during the day,but how true that is I am not sure.
THe night Safari is indeed part of Singapore Zoo (next door) It is a shame you missed the show before you went round. I think you could have added a lot more about this. What about teh mangrove swamp, and the firefly's? Another area worthy of mention would have been the tall trees, and the suspension bridge. The thing I love about this place is the fact that you suddenly come across the animals, and if you are wandering around on your own, it can be quite daunting! LArry

Review of Night Safari, Singapore
Advantages: Perfect for a unique cultural immersion and a wild food-attack. Excellent transport system means getting to anywhere is a breeze. Disadvantages: Hot (at least 30C everyday). Also, there is no natural scenery to speak of.
