We stayed at the Nile Hilton in Cairo for just 12 hours on the way back from a diving trip in the Red Sea. Even though we were only there for a few hours I was really impressed with the efficient and friendly service of the staff. I didn't have to lift a finger. If you are on the hunt for postcards, perfume, papyrus and other authentic Egyptian souvenirs to take back home, that are relatively inexpensive compared to those on offer inside the hotel (and other general tourist traps), there is a little shop outside the rear entrance of the hotel near the Egypt Air office that you should pay a visit.
Other places that you should visit while there if you have the opportunity while in Cairo:
1) Egyptian museum (within walking distance of the hotels rear entrance). Make sure that you arrive early and that you take a guided tour, it’s worth the money as you get very little from wondering around the place on your own. Try and find out before you leave when the Egyptian school holidays are as during the normal school week the place is packed with hundred of children. (Never a bad thing for kids to learn about their heritage but the museum does not have air conditioning and is very hot and stuffy).
2) If you plan to see the Pyramids, arrange this with the hotel, it might seem expensive at the time but believe me we learnt the hard way. We got ripped off by one of the locals believing that we had negotiated a good price only to find out late that we had paid about double the going rate that most hotels offer. You also get the benefit of a guided tour of the Pyramids and the other structures around the area.
3) The Egyptian market in Cairo is not for everyone, if you enjoy the bargaining process and are prepared to punch you way through small, cramped walkways, and put up with being hassled by almost every stall/shop owner you walk past, you can pick up some really good bargains. Be careful though of what you buy and make sure that you get some kind of receipt with the owners name and shop/business name on it as well as the price (this may seem obvious to us but in the market it is a different story) as the Tourism and artifact police at the airport can get rather sticky if they find something that you’ve bought that looks like an Egyptian Artifact. (I have friends that were with us on this trip that found this out the hard way.)
One last note, be very careful where you eat and what you drink, even in the hotels. Overall, being in Egypt and staying at the Nile Hilton was a great experience and I’ll do it again any day!!!
Advantages: Amazing view of nile, nice rooms and friendly staff Disadvantages: a lot of noise
...days and stayed at the Nile Hilton and was impressed with this hotel. The rooms are quite good and are all clean. The rooms are all equipped with air conditioning, TV, phone and mini bar. The service was good. The receptionist were very helpful in sorting out my room and spoke very good English.
The hotel has got a good swimming pool at the back of the hotel with a tennis court. There are many shops in the hotel, on the ground floor there are about ... ...I could see the river Nile and the other side of the river. One bid disadvantage of staying at this hotel is that the city does not sleep until about 3am. I could hear the cars, music and all noises from the street to my room.
Behind this hotel is the Cairo museum which is just about a minutes walk from the hotel.
I did enjoy this hotel even though it was very busy; the rooms are all up to a good standard. The staffs were very helpful. I would ...

...was spent here at the Nile Hilton.
We stayed 3 nights here. The twin room was large and spacious and a generous bathroom en - suite. There was a small balcony which overlooked the rear of the hotel and the famous Egyptian museum. The restaurants were also very clean, there were several to choose from and not too expensive. Breakfast was an 'all you can eat' buffet with a large choice of foods in the Café; we had our evening meals at the Italian ... ...The gift shop at the Nile Hilton was a gem - all the staff spoke English, the main shopkeeper was friendly and chatty (in a nice, ordinary way) and the prices were very reasonable (they sell post cards and stamps and the postcards even arrived home long before we did). The guides etc tell you not to buy at the hotels too dear etc. Utter crap! The guides receive commission from the shops they take you to and unfortunately here live the really pushy ...

contact) told us to get our luggage ourselves and bring it back to him. From then on the only time we had to deal with our luggage was to unpack or pack our belongings in our hotel room/cabin. (A tip - make sure your luggage is distinct, my trolley case was a bright baby pink and my mother's was lilac. They got to be markers letting the rest of the group know their luggage was on the way!)
We were staying at the NileHilton (see my seperate review) in the centre of Cairo right next door to the famous Egyptian Museum of Antiquities. The hotel room was first class and really clean - I work for a Local Authority in Environmental Services so I was more than a little interested in the accommodation we would be staying at and food we would be eating on our trip. Up early the next morning (no lying in bed on this holiday, all the visits are ...
