... We chose the Norlandia hotel since it was called ‘Norlandia Oslo Airport Hotel’ and therefore thought it was a good choice since it was close to the airport. This was where my first gripe with the hotel came from.. once we had arrived we had to take a shuttle bus to get to the hotel, this cost us 60kr each one way (around £6) The airport is infact not so close to the hotel and took a 10 minute bus ride! In the morning we had to take the bus ... ...to and from this ‘Airport Hotel’.
Once we got to the hotel, checking in was easy. All we had to do was hand them out hotel booking confirmation we had been emailed and we were given our room key card. Despite there being two of us, we were only given one card. This was not a problem since we were only staying there overnight, but if we had been staying for longer I think one key card per person would have been better.
I recently had to stay over night at Olso airport since our plane got in late at night and there were no flights to my final destination until the morning. We knew this in advance and had pre-booked a room via a discount hotel website.

Our room was on the third floor, and there is an elevator to use if you have luggage that you are unable to carry up the stairs. Once we got out of the elevator there were long corridors with red carpet, with signs saying which rooms were in each section. We followed the signs to our room number, whilst going along the halls it really smelled quite strongly of urine, it was disgusting. Once we finally got to our room and opened the door, I was quite disappointed. The room was very small. We had ordered a double room (since it was me and my boyfriend), but instead there were two single beds separated by a bedside table. There was just enough space for the beds, but they also put a desk in there too and two comfy chairs, which made the room even more cramped. There was no main ceiling lamp, just lamps on the wall beside the bed and on the desk, this made the room look really dark and dingy, and the brown wooden floors didn’t help much either.
The bathroom was quite small too, but had a shower, sink and toilet. We had a shower and noticed that the sliding doors didn’t close properly, so that when we got out the shower the floor was soaking wet and slippy, and to make matters worse they hadn’t supplied a floor towel that you normally get to put down for when you get out the shower. I thought this was quite dangerous since the floor was very slippery and someone could fall and hurt themself.
When I got settled and into bed, I noticed that there was a stain on my bed sheets at the top near to my face. I’m not entirely sure what it was but it looked a little like blood which made me not want to use the sheets at all. We should have really gone down to reception and complained, but it was about 1am by this time, and we were checking out at 7.30am, so really we couldn’t be bothered with all the hassle, we were really tired after a long day of travelling.
Breakfast was included in the price and was actually quite good. The breakfast starts at 5.30am, which is good if you have an early flight. It was served as a buffet so you could just go around and pick what you wanted. For hot food they had sausages, boiled eggs, scrambled eggs and beans. Then there was a good selection of different breads with lots of toppings. The only problem I had with the toppings were that they had been lying out for a long time and the cheese and meats were drying out and the toppings with mayonnaise had started to change to the plastic glue-type colour they go when they are left out. I think it would have been better if they had had lids on them to keep them fresher. There was also coffee, tea, hot chocolate, juice and milk to drink.
We checked out soon after breakfast, and this was just a case of handing back our key card, nice and simple.
There is a bar right next to the reception which is open 24hrs where you can buy drinks and light snacks. We didn’t make use of this but there were a few people sitting there drinking when we arrived at about midnight. There is also free WiFi in the hotel.
As I said before, we booked the hotel through a discount hotel website and paid about £75 for the ‘double’ room, instead of the normal rate of £130. I am very glad we got the room at a discounted price, and personally I don’t even think it was worth the £75. It wasn’t really close to the airport and the shuttle bus cost a lot to get there, the halls smelled, the room was small and dingy, the shower wasn’t very good and I don’t think the sheets were very clean. I definitely will not be staying here again if I have to stay at Oslo Airport for the night!
