Full review
I recently visited the theatre at the end of North Pier I Blackpool to see a great show called The Kings of Swing…..but that's another review, so on with this one!…

~~~~~~History~~~~~~~
The pier gets its name from the position it occupies along Blackpool Promenade, being the northern most of the 3 piers. It was originally opened in 1863 and was designed by Eugenius Birch, now being one of the oldest piers left designed by this man. The pier is 500m long and the theatre occupies a position towards the very end of the pier. Although the pier was officially opened in 1863, it was not until 1874 that the theatre was opened and at that time it was known as the Indian Pavillion owing to the style and deoration of the building. Unfortunately, the Pavillion had a seious fire in 1921 and was forced to close for 3 years to repair the damage. Just 13 years later, anoher fire forced the venue to close, but this time only for 1 year.
~~~~~~~~~Current Info~~~~~~~
Unfortunately, the theatre of today is not as grand or as popular as it was all those years ago. It is very sparsely decorated and harbours unpleasant odours, smelling rather musty due to it position. The seating is on one level without the usual circle, upper circel etc. The seats are fairly comfortable and leg room is sufficient. When considering which seating to choose, I would advice that rows infront of row G may give you a stiff neck due to having to constantly look up to the stage. I am sure that the front row would result in a restricted view, especially for the more vertically challenged amongst us!!

The toilets at the theatre leave a lot to be desired! I was quite shocked at the state of them during an interval visit! There is simply no excuse for lack of cleanliness and hygeine, especially as the theatre was not even a third full!

For interval snacks, there is a small stallin the foyer selling a selection of sweets and ice creams, but these are overpriced, expect to pay around £2.50 for a bag of wine gums! There is no bar in the theatre, customers are xpected to go across the pier to The Carousel Bar for refreshments, this is not a particularly pleasant bar to visit, it is cold and untidy.

I do think that a better experience could be provided for North Pier theatre goers, we paid £14.00 each for tickets, whch isn't bad at all, but I would have preferred better surroundings and facilities. I am not surprised that the theatre was threatened with closure earlier this year and I am sure that unless they buck their ideas up, the theatre may be facing the same problems this time next year!!
