It was called the north stafford hotel and it was situated opposite stoke on trent train station, which I imaging would be ideal for those arriving buy train.
The hotel boasts 88 bedrooms and is one of many britannia hotels

It was my wedding anniversary coming up and even though we had only been married 2 years we wanted to do some thing special as we had been together 10 years so we sat and had a think about it,and decided it would be great fun to go to alton towers for the day. we thought it would be even better if we could get a hotel in that area and spend a blissful weekend away from the kids and the normality of life.
So after spending many nights searching the internet for hotels in a 20 mile radius of alton towers we came across this one on several occasions,we eventually booked through hotels.com and it cost £86 for two nights for 2 adults complete with a full english breakfast.
It was ideal for us as we wanted somewhere surrounded by shops and things to do,and as it was in the centre of stoke on trent we thought there'd be plenty from us to choose from, and with alton towers being a mere 20 minute drive away it was perfect.

On arriving we parked our car in the car park outside the hotel were there was plenty of spaces to choose from, but my hubby was fretful of leaving his baby there all night but his mind was soon put at ease when we were told there was 24 hour cctv on the car park.
Entering the hotel I was quite taken aback by how grand this hotel looked,it was very clean and the staff seemed pleasant. After checking in swiftly, we were given the option of a smoking/non smoking room, and told what times breakfast was served from in the morning,we were also asked if we would like to open up a room service tab witch we politely declined .we were then given our keys and shown to our room which was on the third floor. We quickly got up to the room to unpack our stuff,
Bedrooms ************ The room had everything you could possibly need, and was very spacious
Tv with sattelite Tea making facilities, Hair dryer, Telephone, Trouser press and an iron, Shower & bath and a nice sized wardrobe.
Our room was perfect,It was spacious and cleaned on a daily basis, and we did'nt here any noise from outside the hotel all weekend.
What does it have to offer? **************************** This hotel has a restaurant,a bar, and a banquet room.It is a 10 minute walk to the nearest group of bars and pubs, and is a 10 minute taxi/bus ride to stoke on trent centre were you will find the potteries and shops galore. From the hotel a ride by taxi will cost you between £3.50-£4.00 to get into the city centre and the same route by bus will cost you £1.40pp.
Restaurant ************ The six towns restaurant is situated in the hotel on the ground floor ,and gets its name from the fact that stoke is made up of six towns, and is used by members of the public aswell as guests and it does get very busy in there, however the food is good but a bit on the pricey side.We had picked the b&b package and this is were we had our breakfast and it was lovely no complaits from us at all, we had a choice of fruit, cereal of a full english and it was available from 7.30am-9.30am(10 on a sunday)
The bar. ********* The bar which was also situated on the ground floor was also put to good use by us, it was open most of the day and up until 11pm they served a range of bar snacks from sandwhiches to burger and chips. We found the prices just above average for that area but i expect you pay for convenience. It had games machines and a pool table and had a relaxed feel about it.
The Banquet & confrence room. ********************************** This room really was grand it would make an ideal wedding reception venue it is of big size and they can cater for up to 450 people,It really does look superb in there.
In all this is a lovely hotel and my husband and I had a fantastic weekend there, and we've said we would definatly go back there if we ever wanted to go back to stoke. We could leave our car at the hotel all weekend and get public transport as we knew all we had to do was find our way back to the train station which was well signposted.
The staff there were lovely they were friendly and polite and would help in any way they could ,we went to alton towers on the sunday,my husband asked for directions and they printed us off a sheet with directions from the hotel to alton towers and it got us there and back.
If your looking for a hotel in the stoke area or like us you want to go to alton towers for a weekend and not spend money on the alton towers hotel i would seriosly reccomend this one to you.

Advantages: 20mins from alton towers, thats it Disadvantages: Everything. Awful place, website terribly misleading
...in. I came across the North Stafford Hotel and it appeared to be quite luxurious and smart and within my price budget. We stayed 2nights for £180.
On arrival we found the hotel carpark but it was fee-payable, the receptionist explained that did not apply to us but that whenever we wanted to go out we would have to get her to credit our pass for the barrier to go up (?). What a hassle!
We were not told of any elevators (which we saw only once we'd ... ...up 4 flights of stairs! Exhausted from the long car journey i was really looking forward to showing my partner what a luxurious room i'd booked for our stay. The door to our room as we approached was (like many) covered in patches of polyfiller filling up huge holes in the door. The room itself was freezing cold, the window was jammed open and we had to really force it shut. There was no heating on at all (september).
The bathroom was tiny, so small ...

Advantages: The place the hotel is situated Disadvantages: The sink being in the bedroom
Firstly the price we paid was fantastic. £35 per night and that was for 2 people! I was pleasantly surprised by this hotel due to the price we paid for it.
Situation - Actually we couldnt have chosen better, it was near alton towers, say about 30 mins drive, right next door to a Subway store, which was good for breakfast and very close to other towns for Pizza Huts, Burger Kings etc.
The rooms - The rooms were basic, but this was only a place to sleep due to us being at alton towers all day. Our room had a double bed, a toilet, a tv, a kettle, a hairdryer. Pretty much everything you may need. The only problem was that our sink for the toilet was in the bedroom which was a bit odd.
Overall - Overall this was a great hotel for the low cost. Would definatley go back!!
