Reading the review before mine, clearly this family had the better-side of the hotel. Do not waste your money on it. I have stayed in a few hotels while travelling, here and abroad. I wanted to take my partner away for his birthday to alton towers (i bought two-day passes) and searched online for a nice hotel to enjoy our weekend away in. I came across the North Stafford Hotel and it appeared to be quite luxurious and smart and within my price budget. We stayed 2nights for £180. On arrival we found the hotel carpark but it was fee-payable, the receptionist explained that did not apply to us but that whenever we wanted to go out we would have to get her to credit our pass for the barrier to go up (?). What a hassle! We were not told of any elevators (which we saw only once we'd reached the top floor) and had to lug our bags up 4 flights of stairs! Exhausted from the long car journey i was really looking forward to showing my partner what a luxurious room i'd booked for our stay. The door to our room as we approached was (like many) covered in patches of polyfiller filling up huge holes in the door. The room itself was freezing cold, the window was jammed open and we had to really force it shut. There was no heating on at all (september). The bathroom was tiny, so small infact that they had put the handbasin in the bedroom. On running a bath putrid black gunk and murky water filled the bath tub. I sat on the toilet and to my horror slid right off again - the seat was not even secured to the toilet! I went down to complain in the morning and it was fixed while we were out for the day which was pleasing. Our stay was hardly what you could call romantic! We had only sheets and we were frozen all night, the bed was so hard i think it would have been better to have slept on the floor. The wallpaper was peeling off everywhere, the whole room was a huge disappointment. The corridors had wires hanging down in places, plastic white trunking and polyfiller everywhere. I honestly could have cried, where were the beautiful drapes on their website? Or the beautiful black and gold satin sheets for the bed?
We didn't dare have dinner there in the evenings when we saw the price per course so we ventured out on foot to see what we could find. There is nothing of an evening for miles and alot of thugs about. We found a small kebab shop and chose the next day to have dinner at alton towers instead. I can honestly say the only enjoyable thing about this hotel is they serve a nice english breakfast.
Fortunately we had a wonderful time at Alton Towers, this made our stay bearable, knowing we could escape this run down dirty hotel for the daytime at least. I would not recommend this hotel, try a travel lodge. At least you'd be warm!
