Advantages: Great views, good food Disadvantages: Over-priced and slow service
On our recent trip to Bude Mr Tart and myself were looking for somewhere posh to eat on the Saturday night. We had despaired because a wander around the town the night before had established that Bude was not awash with restaurants. We used the Internet to see if we could find anywhere and came up with the Castle Restaurant, which promised fine dining and stunning views ? it looked perfect!
LOCATION:
The Castle is located inside Bude castle. This is not (much to my historical disappointment) a real castle but a Victorian building with some Victorian revival towers and crenellations thrown in! The castle overlooks the water and the location is good for those promised stunning views. The Castle is easy to spot in Bude and was within 10 minutes walk of our guesthouse. Advantages: Sun,Sea,sand & surfing, & much, much more. Disadvantages: Occassionally everything disappears under the sea mist.
Everyone knows Cornwall, but often when on my travels, I mention that I now live in Bude, and many people say, "Bude, where's that?"
However, judging by the amount of visitors throughout the summer months, many people already know.
Our little streets are full to the brim with holidaymakers, cars, coaches and hikers.
To those of you who do not know of its existance, maybe I should keep it a secret.
But I won't!
You will love Bude once that you have found it, and of course the surrounding near-by villages..
We are on the borders of Devon, in North Cornwall. With the atlantic coast from Lands-End to Bude.
But please, if you come to visit, try to avoid the 6 long school holiday weeks. The Spring & Autumn are beautiful too.
Although if you are a family, your children will love it in the holidays, with many other children ...

On our trip to Bude Mr Tart and myself were searching for somewhere to eat on the Friday evening. We were saving our ?posh? meal for the Saturday night and just wanted somewhere decent and reasonable for the Friday. We found that Bude does not over-run with restaurants. In fact, in the whole town, we found 3 pubs and an eastern restaurant. The pubs looked and smelt fairly horrible and the eastern restaurant (which looked lovely) couldn?t seat us until late. I?m sure Bude has other restaurants but they were certainly hiding well that night! We were despairing when we wandered down a side road and came across Coasters ? and it turned out to be the best place we could have gone.
LOCATION:
Coasters is at 2 Belle View Avenue. The street is quite small but it is worth asking in order to locate it.
