Advantages The Scenery! Freestyle Dining - not set times, casual dress
Disadvantages Checking out procedures, not always easy to get a table for two.
Travelled from Vancouver on a 7 day cruise to Alaska, stopping off at Skagways, Haines, Juneau and Ketchikan. Travelled with Norwegian Cruise Lines in an outside state room on the Norwegian Wind, on the six floor (out of 12). We booked with BA, and were given an automatic stateroom upgrade, having paid for an inside stateroom.
I chose this holiday becuase it was somewhere I had always wanted to go, and this was the best way of seeing Alaska, not because I particular fancied a cruise. Nevertheless the cruise was good value at about £700 each for the week.I particularly liked the cruise line becuase of its relaxed dress code. you did not have to dress for dinner if you did not want to, at the same time the opportunity was there if you wanted to make the most of it.
The stateroom was adequate, slightly cramped, but this was not after all what we were paying for. I do not think I would have enjoyed an inside stateroom, however, the difference in cost is fairly marginal and the views from the window were breathtaking. The most frustrating part of the experience was checking in and checking out, particularly checking out, when your luggage may not be put aboard for several hours after you finally dock, and the queue for taxis, was probably 2-3 hours long! Definitely worth prebooking your ongoing transportation.
There was plenty of restaurants to choose from, including a slightly more intimate restaurant, which cost a nominal £10 supplement, otherwise all meals were included and you could eat almost any time of day or night. the staff were extremely attentive and very well trained. The cruise was extremely relaxing, there was plenty of activity on board however, and you could take part in as much or as little as you liked. It was good to take part in activity which you may not ordinarily get the time to attend, such as calligraphy classes. There was a pool, however as the outdoor temperature was not a great deal above 0 degrees, we did not brave this.
There was plenty of entertainment, including bands, bars, and discos.

Sounds idyllic and the price is reasonable too!
