I recently travelled to this hotel in bracelona for 3 nights. It is a great hotel, which offers cool views over the city from your room. From the lift you can easily make out mount Tibidabo, the highest mountain in Barcelona. The rooms were well furnished and to a good high standard, offering many of the signature novotel features such as being able to hear the TV through bathroom speakers, movable desks, and luggage racks that turn into breakfast trays. There were very few problems with the room and the only complaint i have to make is a broken skirting board, and an unpleasant lump of nose dirt on the wall from a horrible guest and obviously missed by the maid.
The room is well equiped with satellite TV, ensuite bashrooms with shower and bath, large comfy bed and sofa which turns into another bed for extra guests. Air conditioned rooms, good views, lifts, 24h reception, bar restaurant and outdoor swimming pool and sun terrace with deck chairs.
It is quite an easy hotel to get to, the map on the website is hard to follow and you would be best getting a taxi from the airport instead of public transport, otherwise you have to get the airobus into the city and get metro and train back out. This is the same when going into the city, you have to go to the FGC station at Almeda and get the train (like the DLR) about 7 stops into the city, this takes about 20 minutes but is the fastest way to get to the hotel. Travel in the centre is quite cheap, you can get a 10 journey card for €5 which will get you on metro, FGC, bus and aerobus.
The dining in the area is not very good, there is a local greek restaurant and mainly kebab outlets nearby. Breakfast is best at the hotel as there is nowhere apart from a cafe in the nearby El Courte de Ingles nearby, but you need to speak spanish to get served!.
Dinner is best in the hotel restaurant , the Claria, as there is nowhere nearby and even the city only offers mainly fast food or expensive speciality outlets best suited for a romantic lunch. The hotel restaurant is quite well priced, a childrens cost only €9 (£6) for a massive meal, dessert, drink, bread rolls and even a cheese. Adults were more expensive and to an aquired cheek, the most popular dish being pork cheek with vanilla pods. I found it best to go to KFC or PIzzaHut by the Sagrada Familia.
Tthe city itself has many sights to see; Sagrada Familia, Parc Guell, Casa Batlo, Tibidabo, Casa Mila. I would recommend a guide book as mainy of the locals don't know where their own sights are. If you go for shopping, there are mainy up-market places on Las Ramblas (the main street) - as well as a market selling live sea produce. The best districys are around the Casa Batlo; many popular shops such Gucci and Vesache around there. El courte de Ingles by the hotel is like John Lewis, Ok for housewears and average clothing but quite confusing to navigate through.
The hotel price varies, a lot of the time i found hotels cheaper direct at www.accor.com, you can get good prices such as city break deals including breakfast for about £60 a night. There are other other accor hotel in the centre, but many are more expensive as they are nearer the city.
I would recommend this hotel to anybody but for shopping trips and romantic trips i would say go for a central hotel nearer the shopping districts.
Enjoy your trip :)
