...Cairo an exciting city but do you need the hustle an bustle of this metropolis. The sights make up for the dirt and dust and the people although you should keep an eye on them are really very helpfull. Getting there direct is an option but also coming in from Cyprus is another option the next time you have a fortnight there the ferry is quite cheap and the crossing is very pleasant, certainly recommended. If your in Luxor then why not jump on the overnight train, the journey will cost you about £50 return and that includes a tour of the highlights and normally lunch, again recomended. Dont try take in to many sights you'll end up to tired. Cairo is very busy I would recomend you visit Luxor before Cairo and take in Cairo as an extra... Read review

Advantages: Marginally Cheaper than others
Disadvantages: Bureaucracy, Cairo, Baggage Theft

...Flew from London to Nairobi via Cairo in December 1999, returned in January 2000. The plane itself wasn't bad, the food was acceptable by airline standards (although hardly tasty). The problem is the Cairo exchange and the devotion to bureaucracy of the staff. The outward journey was unremarkable. The hours at Cairo airport were unpleasant - toilets appalling and prices for drinks very high. The real problems were on the way back. The plane was delayed and we were told that we would have to stay overnight in Cairo - they later changed their mind and we were only in Cairo for an hour or so. At Cairo we discovered that our baggage labels, which should have been attached to the tickets were missing - presumably they were removed by the Cairo station manager who had refused to hand back out tickets while we went to breakfast in Nairobi. Advantages: Haven to relax after a day sightseeing
Disadvantages: Still some refurbishment going on in hotel

...We have just returned from 3nts at this wonderful hotel. We had one of the renovated rooms overlooking the Nile and the gardens / pool which was really lovely. The hotel is a real haven from the hustle and bustle of Cairo and it is really beautiful throughout. As we arrived very late one evening we had arranged for the hotel's meet and greet service which was excellent and made the experience less daunting. Having said that our experiences at Cairo airport have been better than at some uk airports! It was an excellent hotel and the staff were all very helpful. We ate at the Waves snack bar and Harry's Pub and the food was excellent at both and very reasonably priced. We were lucky enough to have a fantastic Egyptian guide to show us around Cairo and I would thoroughly recommend this hotel and him to really make your visit to Cairo... Read review
