Advantages: Location, freindly helpful staff Disadvantages: bit tired/dated
We are just back from 4 nights in The Wellington Hotel. We booked it back in Jan'07 thru an online hotel booking site (I may have mentioned it in other reviews) We also booked flights directly with BA thru their website.
We had stayed in NewYork about 2 years ago in a YMCA in the upper westside. However as my oldies were coming with us we had to book a hotel.
We booked a suite at The Wellington for around £780 for 4 adults for 4 nights and the BA flights from ABZ cost around £1,200 for the 4 of us.
We arrived at JFK around 1600hrs and after clearing immigration and a lenghty taxi journey we arrived at the hotel about 1800hrs.
The hotel looked impressive from outside, the lights of Times Square were visable from the front door. The reception area is very nice, a huge chandalier greets you. The reception desk is small and quite ...
Advantages: Super service, nice rooms Disadvantages: Not everyone will like the temporary nature of parts of the hotel
Arrival and Check In
We arrived by taxi from the airport - it took about 10 minutes and I can't say what it cost as I managed to stitch up the colleague I was with who was going on to the Mercure and so fell foul of the 'last one out picks up the bill' rule. My first impressions were mixed because the Novotel is currently undergoing a major renovation programme and the reception is camped out in what appears to be a marquee. I've had some horrendous experiences of staying in hotels that were undergoing renovation so I was a bit nervous when I realised what was going on at this one. However, the charm and friendliness of the place soon put me at ease.
The receptionist was astonishingly friendly which for any hotel in the Dutch capital (a city renowned for it's stroppy staff in a country with the worst 'don't give a damn ...
Advantages: Reasonable prices, tranquil setting, great for picnics, lots to do for children. Disadvantages: Lack of toilets further down the park, too much bird pooh.
Last week I was privileged to be a parent helper on my daughter?s pre-school trip. The destination was not far from our home address yet I had never heard of this place before. Not only was I able to spend the day with a lovely group of pre-schoolers but I was able to take in some breathtaking scenery and fresh air.
What a thoroughly enjoyable day lay ahead for us all and this park deserves a review to encourage (hopefully) more visitors. Situated within easy reach of both the M4 and M3, the park is open daily and is well signposted from the A33.
