Advantages: Londoners perspective: beautiful, clean, orderly and different Disadvantages: Londoners perspective: Expensive (yes even for me!)and a little small and quiet
...I have been to Geneva three times now because I have a friend who lives there. Otherwise I’m not sure it would have crossed my mind to visit. It’s certainly not one of those places on everyone’s must see list. Geneva is in Switzerland but is actually surrounded by France. It is a very unique city - a mix of European and British / American influences with people of all different nationalities settled there. And although the primary language is French most speak at least Basic English.
Transport
Getting to Geneva could not be simpler. Most budget airlines fly there, for example Easyjet have around three flights a day from London Gatwick. The flight only takes an hour and a half and as long as you don’t travel during the peak skiing season prices are really cheap (for example £10!). The airport is not far from the city centre...

Advantages: Lots to do, nice atmosphere Disadvantages: Hotels are rather expensive
...My husband & I visited Geneva last month & loved it. It's just such a big city with so much to do. We went to the Reformation museum & Red Cross museum, but there are also art museums, a watch museum and others. Cathedral is worth a visit- we went to a concert in it which was a great experience. Also visited some sights to do with Jean Calvin the Christian reformer - such as the Reformation Wall. Went on a cruise on Lake Geneva which was lovely. Make sure you take a swimming cossie too cos at "Geneve Plage" there are outdoor pools and a section of the lake that you can swim in if you want. The tram is a good way to get around the city. A little further out are the alps which you can visit by coach.
Hotels & restaurants can tend to be a bit pricey, but we stayed in "Hotel Central" which is reasonably priced and a nice hotel.

...We've just got home from a week travelling across Switzerland by train. Our first night was in Geneva at this hotel. It was quite easy to find from the railway station - we used the map from the website, and also noticed one or two signposts along the way. I think the walk took about five minutes. The hotel is in a slightly run down area of the city. There was a cafe across the road, and a chinese restaurant next door. Next door but one was a karaoke bar - though we didn't actually hear anything from this.
Breakfast was not included in the price we paid, CHF 134 for a double room, as we felt that an extra CHF 14 (about £6.50) each for a cold buffet was expensive.
The room was alright, nothing special. It had two single beds pushed together, and a small ensuite shower room. It was all clean. As we only stayed one night I couldn't say...
