Välkommen till Göteborg!

Advantages: beautiful town, plenty to do, easily reachable,
Disadvantages: can be cold in winter

I am currently living in Sweden and one of my favourite places to visit is Gothenburg, or to give it its Swedish name 'Göteborg' (pronounced Yur-te-boy). Gothenburg is a compact town with less than a million inhabitants, but it still has plenty to keep you occupied... **History** Gothenburg was designed by the Dutch in 1621 and bears more than a passing resemblance to Amsterdam, with pretty tree lined avenues running alongside the many canals. Gothenburg made its name during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries as an industrial and trading centre, and the British, Dutch and German traders who settled in Gothenburg left a rich architectural and cultural legacy. The Orient also has a strong influence over Gothenburg, due to the strong trading links between Sweden and the Far East, and many Oriental design features can be spotted ...

Review of Gothenburg (Sweden)

Cant find it? Your looking the wrong way....

Advantages: Quality(not size)of rooms,view
Disadvantages: Initially hard to find

very well priced meals, as many places have lunchtime specials. Best place to eat out. Sadly not a Swedish restaurant, these were sadly lacking in all the major towns+cities, it was the carribean restaurant opposite the opera house/theatre. Im afraid i dont remember the name, but believe me it was the only one. Unusual, authentic meals, in a very cosy atmoshpere Getting to gothenburg - it does have an airport with direct flights to the Uk with SAS/Ryanair, and you can sail from Newcastle with DFDS. However we came by train, 4hours from Stockholm, £15 each in advance. Overall - Gotheberg is well worth a visit. The Ibis Gothenberg city is a lovely place to stay, but you may want to be closer to town. ...

A boozy and more weekend in Gothenburg

Advantages: Things to see, Things to do, The women
Disadvantages: Beer not cheap!, Vodka not cheap!, None!

I guess Gothenburg might not seem like the ideal weekend destination for a trip with the lad's but let me reassure you it would be one to remember. Now I have to be honest here, as I am a bit of a Jackal and Hyde character when it comes to weekend trips away. Yep I like to have more than a few drinks but I also like to have a good look around at what attractions my resident city has. Anyway let me first run you through how you can get to this fine city. First off you can go by ferry from Newcastle or you can fly. We did the latter. My advice is try and get the cheapest flight possible and then just have a go at knocking some money off at Priceline (www.priceline.co.uk) - it worked for us. Anyway what to see and do and drink. We arrived around tea on the Friday night and headed to our hotel where we picked up our Gothenburg Card's (see ...
