...I thought I would do Proxam's My Hometown challenge However I have already written an opinion on my birthplace Dumfries so I thought I would write one on my adopted home town and current place of residence Manchester. Where Is Manchester?
Yes I know this sounds a silly question but I may as well be thorough! Manchester is in the North West of England in the very south of Lancashire. It lies on three rivers the Irwell, the Medlock and the invisible rerouted Irk. When talking about Manchester I could actually be talking about three different areas. ...in the old county of Lancashire, on the west side of the Pennine Hills. The Metropolitan County of Greater Manchester has the most extensive motorway network in the United Kingdom. It is accessible by road, rail and air. Manchester is 2½ hours from London by Intercity trains, of which there are on average 17 departures every day. Previously a rather grey and miserable industrial area, it's really been picked up of late, and has had lots of development, as noted above. The Lowry really is a must-see - one of the absolute top highlights of Manchester........
To the East?
Well, the most famous thing would be the Eastlands stadium - home to the (filthy) Manchester City FC, but as made famous by the 2002 Commonwealth Games. This has really started to help regenerate the area......there's also a huge...
