I have been living in Nantes for the past six months as part of my university Year Abroad, so I thought I might as well write a review on the city itself!
**General Info**
Nantes is situated in western France, on the Loire River. It's the 'prefecture' of the Pays de la Loire region, which is sort of like the 'capital' of the area. It's the eighth largest city in France, and is only a short journey away from the coast.
**The Town Centre**
The city centre of Nantes has a very French feel to it - there are cafes and bars with pavement tables everywhere; old cobbled roads and little narrow streets with traditional French architecture.
The main part of the city centre isn't very big at all; you could take a walking tour of it in one afternoon.

Advantages: Price, station location, popular late bar Disadvantages: Packed with smokers, Modern plastic feel
If you imagine that hotel chains can be like food chains, the Novotel group would hover somewhere around McDonalds in terms of its ethos and approach. I've stayed in one or two over my time, including those located in London and France, and the occasion in Leeds left me without any illusions.

size and comprised a queen sized double bed and a large sturdy double sofa bed for the children which they found comfortable. A television with a welcome screen and various extra channels such as Sky news, plus the usual terrestrial ones was included. A modem plug was there plus a table that would swing out to become a desk meaning that for those on business a lap top could be used comfortably.
The very nice en suite bathroom had a very clever internal door that could make the toilet separate to the bathroom if you wished. That is very useful if four of you are sharing and this seems to be a feature of Novotel bathrooms. There were nice white fluffy towels and hotel size shower gel, shampoo, soap and a shower cap included. Plenty of hot water and a decent shower over the bath. Well lit, plenty of mirrors and piped television from ...
