Advantages: EXCELLENT FRESH PRODUCE COOKED VERY WELL Disadvantages: NONE
When in Tavira you fancy a very enjoyable meal out then visit the OPATIO RESTAURANT.
LOCATION:-
Find the OLD ROMAN BRIDGE, not difficult, then with your back to the Open Air Theatre cross the bridge, on the opposite side just continue straight down the little street facing you, about 50 yards on the right hand side is OPATIO RESTAURANT.
You enter by the door and prceed up the Staircase. You will pass a chilled display of the Fresh Caught Today fish on offer.
In the restaurant is another chilled display of the Meat on offer.
There is a small bar and then tables in Three Areas (rooms). There is also a Open Air Patio that must be delightful in the Summer. Pity we only seem to visit Tavira in the Winter, although it is still warm.
What I Like is the Tables are Large, which is a big plus when the Food and Drinks come ...
Advantages: Fantastic in every way Disadvantages: None as far as I'm concerned
Having visited Madeira twice now, and experienced different hotels and different sightseeing each time, I thought it would be a good time to write up our experiences of the island- which I have to say are entirely positive. I would go as far as to say that it's probably the best holiday destination we've been to yet- although with a few long distance trips planned, who knows if that will remain the case. All I can say is that Madeira will be a hard place to beat- and this tale of two trips will hopefully explain why.
For those who aren't aware or only vaguely aware, Madeira is one of the Portuguese territories in the mid-Atlantic. It's actually closer to Morocco and Western Sahara than it is to Portugal, and so the flights do take several hours to get there.
Considering its location, Madeira doesn't tend to get uncomfortably hot ...

INTRODUCTION
The Riu Palace in Madeira sits like a white-washed fairytale castle with terracotta turrets, corner towers and grand archways looking out over the sapphire-blue sea. The grounds house brightly coloured flowers and palm trees making you believe you are on a Caribbean island far away.
The Riu Palace is located right on the seafront at Canico de Baixo, only 10 minutes drive from Funchal Airport and 20 minutes drive to the city of Funchal. On arrival at the airport everything ran smoothly and quickly apart from me not recognising my own suitcase!!! We were driven to the hotel in a small mini bus with 5 other people and half an hour later we were sunbathing by the pool. Now that's what I call service.
CHECK IN
From the moment you check in at the impressive, grand reception area with its polished marble flooring, elegant ...
In the center of town, O Patio Jardim Tropicale is in the inner courtyard of a complex of commercial buildings, and its entrance, near a newspaper kiosk, is easy to miss. The restaurant is a welcome refuge from the noise and traffic outside. One of the best lunch bargains in Funchal is a heaping platter of the dish of the day, usually roast chicken or stewed codfish with onions. Meals, served on well-scrubbed wooden tables, might include beef or squid, or tuna steak with potatoes, followed by pineapple flambé. This is not the lightest fare on Madeira, but it can be satisfying and definitely filling, especially on a windy, rainy day. Though there is no particular menu for children, this restaurant attracts more family business, both visitors and locals, than any other restaurant in the center of Funchal. And kids like the many dishes that are familiar fare to them, including the roast chicken, the fresh fish, the roast beef, or the tuna steaks. The yummy desserts are also kid-pleasers.
