Advantages: Great dining, warm and friendly atmosphere, Genuine Irish hospitality Disadvantages: Expensive
...in the fields behind Ballygunner estate! There was uproar! This could not happen to a sleepy little village. Almost everyone was opposed to the idea and petitions were signed and nothing else was talked about in the local pub. I remember all this because i lived in the sleepy little village since i was born and this hotel would be virtually in my back yard! How very dare they!
However, 2 years later( we had relocated to England by then) the hotel was indeed built. And the villagers who swore they would never go in there were soon lured inside by the delicious smell of the brasserie wafting over the fields...

Advantages: Cheap, leisure club, friendly staff Disadvantages: located on hill, tough walk home from pub

The Regional Technical College means that there are always plenty of students about the town, and they are well catered for with a wide selection of bars, restaurants and nightclubs.
The town is well noted for its music scene, and the variety is endless.
As well as many traditional music venues, there is now an annual “Waterford Festival”, when the town is over run for a week each year by classical music buffs from all over Ireland and overseas.
There is a modern shopping mall on Georges Street, which along with the older merchants and shops in the town, offers the visitor a wide choice of clothing, jewellery, and food shops.
One shop in particular not to miss is a whole food shop...
