Oakwood Leisure Park is situated in Pembrokeshire, just off the A40 at Canaston Bridge, next to the CC2000 Bowling Alley and Entertainment Centre.

The easiest and most convenient method of travel is definitely by car - as for most places in Pembrokeshire!! However, there are a number of alternative options available:

Bus: On Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 25th July to 31st August, Pembrokeshire Country Council operate a Day Tripper bus services which serves Oakwood and other destinations around Pembrokeshire. Tickets are reasonable priced at £6 for a family ticket (2 adults, 2 kids) - full details available from www.visitpembrokeshire.com/daytripper .

Train: The nearest train station is 5 miles from Oakwood in Narbeth, so a taxi is required to complete your journey. Jeff's Cabs provide a local service on telephone number 0800 783 4199, but can be quite pricey!! (£40 for return trip from Narbeth!!)

The park has seasonal opening times, and usually opens in March each year, until end of September. As opening days are different each year, try phoning on 01834 861889 to confirm and avoid disappointment!!

Now for the exciting bit......the white knuckle rides!!!! Once you have paid to get in, all the rides are free, allowing you to ride as often as you like without having to pay any extra! (Entry prices are slightly increased each year, but generally vary between £13 for juniors, and £53 for family of 4 tickets - again, phone or check website for pricing!)

Oakwood is home to Megafobia - Europes largest wooden rollercoaster, with a drop of 80ft, and a top speed of 75MPH!!

Hydro is one of the newer rides, with a 45ft drop into water - you can expect to get rather wet! Luckily, the park will provide plastic macs which will help somewhat, but still be prepared for a slightly damp day!!!

Bounce is one of my favouitre rides. Basically, you are strapped into the ride, hoisted up to 160ft at 70MPH, then dropped back down to earth relying on gravity, and a Gforce of 4, before bouncing straight back up to where you started!!!

The new ride for 2006 was "Speed" - a metal loop-the-loop rollercoaster, with speeds upto 90MPH and a drop of 115ft!!

My personal favourite ride is Vertigo, and unfortunately, the only ride in the park you need to pay for. However, the £30 charge can be shared with up to 2 other people, which really does make it value for money!! It's the closest thing to free flight you will achieve - short of bungee jumping I would imagine!

There are a selection of rides for the younger generation across the park, and only a few height restrictions occasionally make things a little difficult for younger riders. The Family Fun Zone is also increased each year, with more rides added for all the family! Generally, the greatest height restriction is 1.3M, which didn't pose too much of a problem for my family - and we are short!!!

The major downsides of visiting Oakwood are the costs for eating - but having visited many other themeparks, including Alton Towers etc, this does seem to be the trend, and bringing along a packed lunch seems to be the only alternative.

Be sure to try and visit during school days, and school trips can also put a real dampner on your day out, with already sizeable queues becoming more than unberable, which can be very difficult with excited children alongside you!! Most of this can be avoided when the weather is less than perfect, and a cloudy day can really benefit you in this case!

All in all, it's a great day out for grown-ups and children alike, and if you're in the area, I'd definitely recommend it to anyone!!

:o)
