Transatlantic - Barbados Bound

Advantages: Total relaxation, Wonderful food
Disadvantages: Sometimes a bit like cattle herding

Ocean Village advertise themself as "The Cruise for people who don't do cruises", and it's a fitting slogan.

Cruises are nothing new, but they all follow the same stereotype carried forward from the great transatlantic liners.

I don't want to wear a monkey suit for dinner when I'm on holiday, and recognising that there must be a market for people who want to cruise but aren't hankering for the 1920s P&O have ...
...We've taken two cruises with Ocean Village (which, in itself, tells you a little something, because I'm not in the habit of giving companies a second chance if they get it wrong), but there are already ample reviews of the Ocean Village cruises in the Med or in the Carribean. This review looks specifically at an Ocean Village Transatlantic cruise.

Ocean Village cruises the summer in the Med and the winter in the Carribean, with the ... more

A Room with a View!

Advantages: Great food and new places to see everyday.
Disadvantages: Hectic getting on and off the ship in port.

Ocean Village is part of the Carnival Cruise line, by the end of 2010 its ships will have moved to P&O Austaralia where the cruise market is expected to rise. The crusie tagets the 30-40 yeard old market and families. Ocean Village market themselves as the “Cruise for People who Don’t do Cruises”. Feeling that as a family we would feel restricted on a traditional cruise line we decided to take our first steps into the world of cruising using Ocean ...
...have another ship called Ocean Village two which is a bit newer but very similar in size. One week cruising in the Mediterranean was booked and the anticipation mounted. We booked flights with Ocean rather than booking independently for peace of mind. This proved very useful as our flight was delayed by several hours so the boat was kept in port until our plane arrived. If we had been independent it would have left. Arrival at the port was straightforward, ...

Sugar and Spice and All Things Nice

Advantages: everything!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Disadvantages: nothing

...you get a chance. Ocean Village is a fantastic company to go with if you are looking at a cruise. They arn't very expensive and the staff and service is outstanding. The cruise was called Sugar and Spice. The itinerary was covering... Barbados Aruba Curacao Isla Margarita St Lucia Tobago All excellent destinations to soak up lots of sun. First we had to fly to Barbados the night before as that was the port of call. We stayed at the Tamarind ...
...was magnificent, and coloured in Ocean Village trademark colours thats is oranges, reds and purples. The decor made it a very bright and cheerful atmosphere at all times throughtout the cruise. There are 8 bars on the ship which include a swin-up bar. The most popular is The Connexions Bar, which is located in the centre of the ship. The others bars are called.. *The Sunweaver deck bar *The Bayside Bar and Nightclub *The Oval - which is more like ...

Ocean Villiage sails past competitors

Advantages: Great food, great people, great activities
Disadvantages: Shame about the entertainment, and Tunisia!

...it really formal?" Well, NO! Ocean Village is "the cruise for people who don't do cruises". Formal is literally thrown over board on this liner. I've cruised the Caribbean twice before with the very impressive Royal Caribbean. So Ocean Village and the Med had a lot to live up to! I booked the stay and cruise option in June 2003 for my boyfriend and I. We spent the first week at Cala D'or gardens (pretty basic and average food) and then the second ...
...port and on first impressions Ocean Village looked more impressive than Island Escape, its nearest rival. When getting off the coach we walked straight through to the terminal and picked up our cruise cards, and then straight onto the ship. Very efficient! When getting on the ship we were handed a newsletter which tells you what’s going on that day, and over the week (these are also delivered to your cabin every night for information on the next ...

Casual Caribbean Cruising

Advantages: Excellent food, huge cabins, fabulous entertainment
Disadvantages: Expensive shore excursions, annoying ships photographer

...cruise of the Caribbean with Ocean Village. It was fabulous. Anyone younger than 50 who thinks cruises are all old age pensioners having a 6 course dinner at the captain's table can think again - the company's logo is "Cruises for People who Don't do Cruises" and this is certainly true. I've detailed below all the facilities etc that are on board the ship but outline briefly here our experience. We flew from Manchester with Thomas Cook and they ...
...desk and you don't see them again until they arrive at your cabin later that evening. When you get off the plane in Barbados a coach arrives and takes you from the tarmac direct to Bridgetown Port meaning you don't have to queue up at customs in the airport. On arrival at Bridgetown Port one you have signed your cruise card etc, be ready to have your picture taken, the annoying ships photographer is lurking to take your photo as you get on board ...

Ocean Village 2 Week Cruise around the Med

Advantages: Great informal setting. Very helpful staff and very relaxing
Disadvantages: Shore excursions can be expensive.

...will be met by an Ocean Village Rep who directs your to a fleet of busses ready and waiting to take your for a 20 minute ride to your ship. This is when the excitement really starts. The sheer size of this beauty is amazing if youve never cruised before. Something like the length of 2 football pitches and in the region of 65000 tons. This was the last time we seen our cases until we reached our cabin. Once off the bus we qued for a few minutes in ...
...cruise cards ect. By this time everyone was getting excited and couldnt wait to embark. Once past the photographer (who, believe me, you will encounter a lot on your cruise) it was a blast of alcohol gel on the hands (another thing you will get used to every time you go into a restaurant or gym on the ship) and up the gangway. This took us straight to deck 5 where the main reception area was and it looks very impressive. We were in cabin E142 which ...

P + O Cruises on the Ocean Village

Advantages: Good Food, lots of nice places to visit
Disadvantages: Plenty of them, just take a look at this review....

A review of my honeymoon, on the Ocean Village and why not to do it! I booked a honeymoon cruise onboard the Ocean Village cruise ship, for a one week cruise around the Mediterranean, I had to pay just about full price, just under £1000 each for a outside cabin with a window on the "D" Deck ? the view from the window was obscured by a giant lifeboat just outside. We knew about the lifeboat blocking the window prior to our cruise, but I could not afford an upgrade and I certainly was not going to downgrade - as it was our honeymoon after all. No problems booking, the travel agent were very helpful and advised that this would be the best type of cruise for us as a young honeymoon couple because the ship is very informal, lots to do onboard, Facilities include: eight bars, four places to eat, two swimming pools (one with swim ...

Ocean Village

Advantages: Informal, 24 Hour Dining, Plenty to Do and See
Disadvantages: Sunbeds

Having never cruised before, having read a bad review regarding Ocean Village and knowing that Ocean Village was being marketed at "People that don't do cruising", I was unsure as to whether this was going to turn out to be a nightmare week on a floating Butlins. I couldn't have been more wrong. This was a Mediteranean cruise, starting in Majorca and taking in some fantastic destinations including Tunis, Rome, St Raphael and Barcelona. Ocean Village is targeting the younger cruise market offering excursions like mountain biking, although they also offer the more traditional excursions with guided tours for the less active, like me! But you are also free to just get off the ship and do your own thing or stay on board the ship and use the facilities. We had an outside cabin, and I was very surprised at how spacious it was ...

Thomson Spirit - Fortunate Isles Cruise

Advantages: Go everywhere, see everthing, in comfort!
Disadvantages: Seasickness

't the cheapest holiday - we paid £2200 for a "deluxe" (window) cabin, but thats not too bad for a fortnight full board. The highlight was possibly (strangely) Morrocco. After reading some scary reviews saying to stay on the boat I actually found it a very different and fascinating place (although I wouldn't want to wonder around by myself!). The lowlight (is that a word?!) was deciding to have a bath before the formal night. I was fine all the rest of the time on the boat but the bath water kept swaying up and down and it did me in! Seasick on the formal night! And the acid test of how good it was? I have booked on another cruise; the Ocean Village around the Carribbean. I am hoping for a few less old people tottering around the boat! ...
