Odeon cinema complex in Kingston Upon Thames is a favourite destination for families, couples, groups and individuals from all over the area/county. It is one of the biggest cinemas around and it has got a choice of restaurants, bars and 12 screens which makes it easier with choosing from current movies.
The complex is orientated oposite the Kingstontrain station and its short distance to high street. It is busy area and always buzzing. When you walk in through glass door you can either go upstairs using escalator or lift
or downstairs. The ground floor has a restaurant during the day and bar in the night. I think they have got evening restaurant in separate area from tables when youngsters usually drink before hitting the nightclub Oceana next door. Lower level has got Bowling and other entertainment with bar and fast food service. I found the area filled with very young people and its better to book if you are planning to play Bowling and not too late in the evening. First floor is where Odeon is together with Express Pizza, chinesse restaurant, Sushi bar and Frankie and Benys, Hagen Daz ice cream place and Frangos. Always well busy so its essential to pre-book if you are plannig to eat before hiiting the movies. All the places serve different food so its up to your taste what you fancy. I found Frankie and Benys good and their staff is always very helpful especially if you are hungry and you have a movie to see, they will always do what they can to accomodate you. Then there is the Odeon cinema itself. It went recently through some refurbishment so it looks slightly different than what it looked before but I preffered the previous set-up. There is a large number of tills and you can purchase your tickets there if you already didnt buy them online which could be chaper option because their prices went up from £7.50 to £8.50 in recent months. If you are a student there is a discount same for families/group or family deal. Their staff at the till is usually very young and helpful apart from one experience when they sold us tickets for late night screening and the movie was never going to be shown due to underselling tickets and they already knew but forgot to inform us so we had to deal with the manager after the member of staff refused to return our money. They could be trained a bit better especially when you are waiting around for 2h and not happy.
You can buy various sweets, crisps, nachos, hotdogs, ice-creams, popcorn and drinks but I found them expensive so I tend to bring my own as I am not wasting my money. Their sweet selection when you pick and mix is ok, but could have more choice and somebody suppervising it because small children tend to eat them and nobody spots that and nobody should be really touching anything inside the plastic container. It because they moved it from main serving/selling refreshments area to opposite wall and its not really that visible.
When you go through with your tickets they will be automaticly teared by member of staff and you will informed where to go as it can be little bit confusing due to massivness of this cinema. There are escaletors going up or down so make sure you check on ticket or ask the member of staff where is it before getting lost.
When you get to your screen there will be stairs taking you up and rows with numbers on seats to guide you to your seat. It can be very difficult and watch out for premiere seat which are charged extra for /£1 per ticket but I doubt anybody checks where you sitting when the movie starts apart maybe from people who suppose to sit there. I never sat in those seats as I dont see the point to pay extra because the normal seats are quiet cool. Probably a way for Odeon to make extra money. The area around seat is usually clean and they always clean it after every movie screening.
Once you finished watching your movie you will be guided out again by staff standing in hallway by they little info station. Toilets are orientated on both levels and there is a lot of cubicles and tidy.
Odeon cinema is very organised and customer friendly. I enjoy their night screening too. Just be aware that there isnt any car park so you will have to look up the area where to park!!!
