The Birmingham Odeon is perhaps the most conveninet to get to, if you live in Brum or are travelling in, but not the most convenient to sit in. here's a few of the pros and cons.

Transport - by car of bus, this cinema is very accesible, making it ideal for people like me who travel in from outside the city. It's only about five minutes walk from New Street Station. Coming in by car it's a very different story - you would have to park up and pay through the nose, and it would be more like a ten minute walk, as a minimum, to get to the cinema - as the town centre Odeon has no car park of its own.

The foyer is reasonably large and pleasant, but from experience you can be kept a while waiting for tickets. the staff are not very prompt and for 8pm showings, the queues can be very long. The building has several stories, with a reasonable distribution of toilets. it all smells a bit old and musty. the seats are small and cramped, most of the screens are not that big. The best place to sit is over the steps because that way you get a bit more room and a perfect view of the screen.

Prices - if you go to matinees or during the week, ticket prices are really good. if you go at weekends, they are quite a bit more expensive. They do student, child and OAP disocunts. The food and drinks are terribly over priced, as is usual in cinemas. (Better to take your own.)

Range of films- Birmingham repliably gets all the blockbusters, but they quite often seem to be a week to a month late getting there. Once a film has arrived, it can still be on at the Odeon a month or two later (Bridget Jones has been there for a couple of months.) They don't tend to show any of the arty unconventional films at all so if you ant anything that's a bit unusual, you would be better off going somewhere else.

There isn't anywhere to sit, eat, of generally hang out around this cinema - its in, watch the film, out, so as a social spot it isn't up to much. it tends to get less crowded tan more modern cinemas, which can be a real advantage. they do reshow older films sometimes.

I go to this cinema because it is easy to get to. If there was something closer to home, I would undoubtedly go to that instead. This isn't really a place to go to by choice, but it's better than no cinema at all.
