...The Thomson Sixty is a relatively new "boutique" hotel in SohoNewYork. Location wise it is excellent, ten minutes walk away from the nearest subway, 5 minutes walk to the stylish Soho shops and excellent restaurants and bars around. Both Little Italy and Chinatown are in walking distance.
I stayed there with three friends and the hotel said we could all stay in one room. We thought this was great as it would cut down our costs, however the room was not very big and the beds were only doubles. Every other hotel I have stayed in in the US have had Queen or Kingsize beds.
The other problem with the hotel was the heat. It was winter so the bar conditioning had been turned off but you had no control of the heating in the bedroom. We had to leave the windows open all day and at night had to shut the window due to New York noise...

Advantages: Cheap and right on Times Square Disadvantages: A bit on the shabby side
...Hotel Carter is often referred to as a hostel but I wouldn't go that far. Although it's not exactly New York luxury the room was en-suite and was clean and a good size, if a little dated (the carpet on the wall is somewhat different!). The Hotel didn't have a restaurant but there are plenty of places to eat nearby. If you are just after a cheap weekend in the Big Apple you can't get a much more central location than this Hotel which is just off Times Square and for the money compared to other NY hotels I think it is great value. Especially since you'll probably spend very little time in hotel room with the rest of New York to explore!...

...I arrived late at night due to my flight being delayed. Expecting to start work the next morning I was disapointed that the reception was empty apart from the token receptionist milling around in the back of the desk area. Eventually getting my room key I made my way up to the room. I guess for a 5 star hotel I should have expected that the lifts would work correctly but then again I should have known better. Being an old hotel didn't really instill faith in me as I figured out that the only way to get the lift that I had chosen to go to my floor was to stop on the floor below mine and then change lifts? I was relieved to see that the room made up for the challenging start to my visit to NewYork.
I was lucky enough to have a corner suite which gave me stunning views over the area. The rooms are somewhat small however, and rather dated...

If you want to stay in Central New York then this is the hotel to book. It is actually IN Times Square! It's a huge modern hotel with over 45 floors so some of the views are great. There is a bar at the top which is a lovely place to have a drink,... more
The New Yorker is in an excellent midtown location with the subway (lines A, C & E) literally steps outside. Being on the corner of 8th Avenue and 34th Street this meant good access to Macy's, Empire State Building, Madison Square Gardens and the... more
Postmodernism, eh? It's a funny old bag of fish. Even the holier-than-thou critics don't quite seem to know what it's all about. They argue whether it's
a) a revolt against modernism,
b) a progression of modernism,
c) both of these and more
or d) more
