today I want to write a short essay about my 'recent' (2007) experience on the Oktoberfest ("Wiesn") in Munich, Germany. Unfortunately, I have forgotten a lot of that day since the beer they serve is fairly strong:-)
But here's my view on the following key points: - Access to tents - Prices - Attractions
1) Access to tents Actually, and especially on a Saturday when I tried my luck, it is virtually impossible to enter a tent in the afternoon. It is much easier to snag a place in one of the biergarten around the big tents. Solution: Make a reservation in advance (You must commit to 8persons, consuming 16 beers, and 8 grilled chickens, ~240EUR)
2) Prices In my opinion beer is not that much overpriced compared to the prices you pay in Munich in general (around 7-8 EUR for 1 liter). Food is quite expensive as far as i remember;-)
3) Attractions There's much overpriced new stuff - however, in my opinion it is best to try the old attractions like "Teufelsrad" which are around since ages, still fun, and also very fair prices.
