wild Atlantic ocean meets a rugged beauty on the edge of Europe, an untamed landscape where nature?s abundance has the power to embrace and nourish you.
Advantages: Very warm welcome, great historic house, superb gardens Disadvantages: Limited admission times to the house
...of pure nature and silence there, or take the route through Catstocks Wood to see St Bega's Church first.
Opening times are from easter to the end of October from 10 am to 5.30 pm for the gardens and the tea room (The Old Sawmill Tearoom, built in 1880, located next to the car park).
Make sure you come to Mirehouse on a Wednesday or Sunday, because only on those two days and just from 2 to 4.30 pm you can actually visit the HistoricHouse the oldest part of which was built in 1666 by the 8th Earl of Derby. In August only, entrance to the house is possible on Fridays as well (again 2 to 4.30 pm).
The reason for such limited admission times is the fact, that the owners of Mirehouse (the Spedding family who have been owning Mirehouse since 1802) are still living there, and they just allow a few hours for visitors to see their home...

Advantages: Lots Of History Disadvantages: Entrance Charges, Closed During The Winter

He owned one of the water-powered mills in the village and was looking for suitable accommodation for his mill workers. He converted the building into Cottages...

The library has to be one of the best private libraries to be found in the world as it has over 30,000 books including books of fine bindings over the last six centuries, a good lot of them are there due to the diligence and interest of the 6th Duke of Devonshire.
I didn't visit the Archives but it is apparently a true and reliable source of learning about every day life at Chatsworth House since that formidable first dweller, Bess of Hardwick and all those who helped her and subsequent guardians of this most magnificent historichouse.
You cannot visit Chatsworth House without coming away hugely impressed at the collection: British and Old Masters, watercolours, portrait miniatures, sculpture, woodcarving, ceramics, gems...

For an undergraduate course in American Religious history and experience I am teaching, I use a derivative of this book (the publishers, Pearson, will customise texts for particular schools). However, the basic shell remains the same, as well as the vast more
I first found this book after reading up on the Richard and Judy Summer Reads 2007, and after loving some of the other books on their list, I decided I would try this one. This isn't normally the kind of book I would go for, but I really liked the blurb... more
